On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin highlighted the importance of expanding the Brics bloc’s influence on world energy markets. The statement came as Russia prepares to host the International Energy Week Forum and a meeting of BRICS energy ministers.

During the event, Putin highlighted, through a letter to participants, the need to cooperate in the energy sector to support national economies and improve quality of life. He also mentioned the importance of establishing common principles for a fair energy transition.

In the current context, the BRICS, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, and recently expanded to include Egypt, Iran and the United Arab Emirates, holds 42% of global oil and gas reserves. This expansion reinforces the bloc’s position as a counterweight to the US-led world order.

Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced that the Kremlin will reveal more information about the forum’s participants soon.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Energy of Saudi Arabia, a country with significant weight in the global energy market, has not yet confirmed the presence of its minister, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, at the event.
