The media reappearance of Mauricio Macri has caused some sparks to fly in the right wing. Early on Friday, presidential spokesman Manuel Adorni sought to differentiate himself from the criticisms made by the former president, particularly with the definition made by him at his event in La Boca that (from the PRO) “we were able to help despite the environment.” According to various media, this definition would have been taken up by both Karina Milei and Santiago Caputo, who today make up the inner circle of presidential politics and would have been interpreted as an attempt to negotiate positions within the management of La Libertad Avanza. Adorni stressed that what Macri said “does not interfere even half a millimeter in the action of the Government.”

In turn, the spokesman added in response that “We are proud of the team, Milei is proud of the team he has and all of us who are part of it are proud to work with the President and we consider that we are a team that is not only solid but that we have also achieved great milestones in a very short time.” Beyond the ridiculousness of self-praise in the midst of a social crisis and economic turbulence, everyone seems to be moving pieces in the face of a somewhat unpredictable situation in view of next year’s elections, but with an uncertain future just around the corner. The consequences of the adjustment are advancing but the wheeling and dealing for positions and lists already seems to be starting to creep into the scene. The contradiction is caused by a situation of permanent instability that still forces Milei to maintain the support of the PRO in Congress, the so-called “friendly opposition”, which is nothing more than a firm support for the adjustment, and beyond that, by a Macri who praises the path of the Government, stating that “it has absolute clarity of direction and ideas”, but is prepared to open up and try to prevent any overflow of discontent from ending up affecting him.

It is in this spirit that everyone is careful to avoid any excess. Before his public appearance, Mauricio Macri held a long interview with Javier Milei a few days ago and the current President avoided making direct statements about the words of the founder of the PRO.

In keeping with this situation, which is still far from being resolved, the sparks continue and this Friday Macri clashed again with Patricia Bullrich in new statements to the media, stating that “it is wrong for her to speak with such disdain, this pejorative way of the PRO (…) she cannot have such a destructive attitude” and charging her, “it is not the fault of the PRO leadership that she came third.” A settling of scores in the midst of a split in the party between the sectors close to Macri and those who follow Bullrich and have joined the libertarian administration directly.

New data on a political situation that, due to the sum of its contradictions, may pave the way for the appearance of the working class and popular sectors with their own demands, sooner rather than later, and thus remove this truly plundering and parasitic caste from the scene.
