It is Friday March 6 a Public Conversation against the reform of the Glacier Law What the national government intends to do between deputies of different blocks with a large number of environmental organizations y leaders of the sector, and personalities of art and culture.

Nicolás del Caño stated that “The mobilization of the working people of Chubut, Mendoza, Jujuy, environmental organizations and communities was what could stop initiatives of these characteristics” when opening the meeting and then giving the floor to the almost 30 exhibitors (including deputies, researchers, environmental fighters and personalities of art and culture.

The following were present deputies: Myriam Bregman, Nicolas Del Caño, Romina de Plá, Néstor Pitrola, (Left Front), Carlos Castagneto (Unión por la Patria), Maximiliano Ferraro (ARI Civic Coalition) and Leonardo Grosso (MC deputy of the Evita Mov.). Deputy Adriana Serquis from Unión por la Patria participated remotely by speaking. And deputies Esteban Paulon and Paulo Farías (Unidos) sent their support to the call.

The following environmental references were present: Enrique Viale, lawyer with postgraduate studies in Environmental Law; Maristela Svampa, Senior Researcher at Conicet and Full Professor at the National University of La Plata; Alicia Rodríguez, engineer and specialist in environmental sciences, UBA; Guillermo Folguera, doctor in biological sciences – independent researcher CONICET – UBA professor, Carolina Alvarez, member of the interfaculty assembly of Mendoza, participant in the mobilizations for water, Leo Grosso (MC Mov Evita deputy), María Cecilia Costa, member of Noalamina – author of the book Mining Dictatorships; Pablo Bergel, popular activist – Ecopolitical activist – PACHAS group, J.Pablo Piñeiro from Greenpeace.

The following personalities of culture and art were present: Celina Font, Julieta Díaz, Guillermo Martínez, Enzo Maqueira, Guillermo Bonetto, Julieta Diaz, Valentina Cooke, Mariel Fuertes, Paula Alonso, Dolores Reyes, Claudia Aboaf and Laura Azcurra.

For three hours, everyone present spoke about the endless harmful aspects that the measure that the ruling party intends to carry out, with the alliance of governors who are in favor of the interests of the extractive sectors and mega-mining, implies for the destruction of the environment and our natural common goods. The commitment of all those present at the end of this important meeting was the same: to deepen the fight against the reform of the Glaciers Law and to defend the environment.

It is worth remembering that last Wednesday, in a joint meeting of the Natural Resources and Constitutional Affairs commissions, at the request of sectors of the opposition, the call for two Public Hearings for March 25 and 26 was resolved.

In this way, the ruling party could not get its way, which was to carry out an express procedure as it did with the labor reform in Deputies. After the hearings, the commissions must issue the opinion and then go to the venue. According to the version given by the authorities of both commissions, this could happen around April 8.
