With all the commotion surrounding Joe Biden, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, you could almost forget that there is another presidential candidate in the race: independent Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Although his chances of becoming president are slim, he is known to be a strong supporter of Bitcoin (BTC), as he recently emphasized during the annual Bitcoin conference in Nashville.
Kennedy Jr.’s statements
“I’m a big supporter of Bitcoin. The majority of my wealth is in Bitcoin,” Kennedy Jr. said during his campaign. Although he has little chance of becoming president, he is gaining popularity among crypto owners.
Libertarian Kennedy Jr. also sharply criticized the U.S. Federal Reserve, accusing it of protecting bankers rather than the people.
“The relationship between Congress and the Fed is both parasitic on our country and symbiotic. The Fed is not a public institution; its decision-makers are appointed by the banking industry.”
Known for his controversial statements, Kennedy Jr. also spoke about the Covid pandemic and lockdowns.
“The lockdowns closed all the small businesses in this country that we should be cherishing, and kept open the Walmarts, the Amazons, the Facebooks, the oil industry, the processed food industry, the agricultural companies, all of which thrived during that period,” he said.
Crypto and US Politics
Although he is sometimes labeled as a “conspiracy theorist,” his statements appeal to more liberal thinkers. Kennedy Jr. believes that as president he would tackle some structural problems, with crypto playing a major role. Earlier this year, he emphasized the importance of crypto and blockchain technology:
“We need sovereignty over our own wallets, freedom of transaction, and a transparent currency. We need to ensure that America remains the center of blockchain technology.”
In addition to Kennedy Jr., Donald Trump will also give a speech at the Bitcoin Conference. Trump, who was critical of crypto a few years ago, calling it “nonsense” and “hot air,” has since become an advocate of the technology.
