Argentina has been shaken by a serious accusation of domestic violence against former President Alberto Fernández. Former First Lady Fabiola Yañez has denounced him for physical assault and harassment. The accusation has gained great repercussion, especially after the publication of photos on the website Infobae, which show bruises on Yañez’s arm and face, allegedly caused by Fernández.
Living in Madrid with the couple’s two-year-old son, Francisco, Yañez presented the images as proof of the attacks she suffered during the time she lived in Quinta de Olivos, the official residence of the Argentine presidency, where she claims to have been repeatedly attacked, as reported by Metrópoles.
In WhatsApp messages sent to Fernández, Yañez stated: “You have been attacking me for three days in a row,” adding that the attacks were constant. “It doesn’t work like that, you attack me all the time. It’s unusual,” he said. After mentioning the bruises on his body, Yañez joked: “That was when you hit me by accident.”
In response to the allegations, Judge Julián Ercolini ordered protective measures for Yañez, including a restraining order prohibiting Fernández from approaching her and a ban on leaving the country.
Alberto Fernández, in turn, categorically denied the accusations in a note published on his social media, promising to present evidence and testimonies to the courts that, according to him, will clarify the true events. Fernández also suggested that the fights between the couple were caused by third-party interference, mentioning that “they fought because of others.”
