Colombian President Gustavo Petro calls Trump a “white slave lord” after humiliating deportations, while threats from tariffs shake bilateral relations

Trump threatened trade war with Colombia after President Gustavo Petro refuses to accept deportations without “decent treatment.” Colombian President Gustavo Petro harshly criticized his American counterpart Donald Trump in an inflamed message, calling him a “white slave lord” that is on the way to “extinguish the human species.” The statement occurred after Petro refused to accept two military planes carrying deported migrants, who were handcuffed and with their hands tied by US officials.

Both parties reached an agreement later, with Colombia stating that no American military would be aboard the deportation flights and that military aircraft would be used only as a last resort. Petro said he would never accept Colombians being sent back handcuffed.

Colombian Chancellor Luis Gilberto Murillo stated that Petro’s plane would be ready to receive US-deported Colombians and that the country would “continue to receive the Colombians who return as deported, guaranteeing their decent conditions.”

Meanwhile, the Trump government has retreated in its threat of tariffs.

However, despite the agreement, Petro used the X (former Twitter) to publish a long message directed to the new US president.

“I don’t like your oil, Trump, you will extinguish the human species because of greed,” Petro said.

“You don’t like our freedom, that’s fine. I don’t squeeze the hand of white slaves. ”

Petro added that if the US imposed tariffs to Colombia, Bogota would retaliate the same way.

“You can try to blow with your economic strength and arrogance, as they did with Allende. But I will die in my law, resist torture and resist you, ”Petro said, referring to former Chilean socialist president Salvador Allende, knocked down with the help of the US.

The White House issued a statement by stating that Colombia accepted all Trump conditions, including the “unrestricted acceptance of all US illegal immigrants deported from the United States, including US military aircraft, without limitations or delays.”

“Today’s events make it clear to the world that America is respected again,” said the White House.

The Trump government has taken over last week and has already issued several immigration -related executive orders to prevent US from entering the southern border.

Trump also threatened to impose rates on several countries, from neighbors such as Canada and Mexico to global rivals such as China.
