Neurologist Dr. Tom Pitts told NBC News that President Biden is exhibiting symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, a condition that affects the nervous system. Pitts noted that while he has not examined Biden directly, Parkinson’s is a “relatively easy movement disorder to diagnose.”
During a press briefing on Monday, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked about Biden’s cognitive abilities. This followed a report from the New York Post that neurologist Dr. Kevin O’Connor of Walter Reed Military Medical Center had met with Biden’s physician Dr. Kevin C. O’Connor several times over the past year. Pitts listed several symptoms Biden has displayed, including “stiff movements” and “slowness of movement,” which are hallmarks of Parkinson’s disease.
Pitts noted that Biden has a “stiff gait” when he walks and does not swing his arms, both typical signs of the disease. He also mentioned that Biden has a “low voice,” another symptom of Parkinson’s. The White House, in turn, cited O’Connor’s health summary letter, saying that Biden has no signs of the disease.
However, many question whether Biden is fit to continue as president. Despite the White House’s assertions that Biden is in good health, these doubts continue to grow, especially as the election approaches, increasing the focus on the president’s physical and mental health.
