The Israeli prime minister, Benjamín Netanyahu, has assured this morning that during the meeting he held with the US president, Donald Trump, to approve his Gaza Peace Plan, did not agree on the establishment of a Palestinian state. “We have said that we firmly oppose a Palestinian state,” said Prime Minister in a video published on his social networks.

“Roundly not,” Netanyahu said. “It is not even written in the agreement,” he added in reference to the State.

The White House presented on Monday the Pact for Peace in Gaza. Donald Trump appeared with Netanyahu to explain the 20 points of the program, which contemplates a high fire in the strip, the release of hostages and Palestinian prisoners and, not less important, the creation of a transition government without the presence of Hamas and protected by the United States. In the background, the possibility of negotiating in the future a Palestinian State, once peace has been restored and the reconstruction of Gaza begins.

This is stated in point number 19: “As the reconstruction of Gaza progresses and the reform program of the Palestinian authority is faithfully carried out, it is possible that the conditions for a credible path towards self -determination and the creation of a Palestinian State are finally given, which we recognize as the aspiration of the Palestinian people.”

However, Netanyahu has been very clear: he insists that Israel “will assume the responsibility of security” of the Strip, in which it will establish a security perimeter “around her and that neither Hamas nor the National Palestinian authority will be part of the civil administration assumed by the Government after the end of the war.

These statements also contradict point nine of the Peace Plan, which affects the Palestinian National Authority, once its reforms have been completed, it may “recover the control of Gaza safely and effectively.” “An overwhelming majority of Israeli public does not believe that the Palestinian authority will change,” says Netanyahu.

“Netanyahu and I have discussed how to finish the war in Gaza, but that is just a fraction of peace in the Middle East. This agreement will take a lasting peace to the region,” said US president. Hamas has been excluded from the negotiations of the text, and the Islamist group said last night that he had not yet been able to read it. “Everyone has accepted it. Hamas is only missing and I have the feeling that the answer will be positive,” Trump said.

Hamas has assured that he wants to study “in good faith” the agreement, but criticizes that he has been excluded from the negotiation process. Taher Al-Nouno, a high position of Hamas, has said in an interview that the armed group will not accept the demilitarization required by Israel. “Nobody has contacted us, nor participate in the negotiations in this regard,” said Al-Nounou.

“If Hamas rejects your plan, president,” Netanyahu told Trump, “Israel will finish the job alone.” “It will be done by easy way or the hard track, but you have to do it,” said Israel’s leader. “Gaza will be demilitarized, Hamas will deliver the weapons, Gaza will have a civil transitional government and Israel will maintain security responsibility, including a security perimeter for the near future.”

The proposal comes when Israeli genocide has already claimed the lives of more than 65,000 Palestinians. “We are taking a new step to win the war,” the Israeli leader celebrated Monday. The space occupied by the Gazaties in the peace plan is minimal and already serves as an indicator about what place they will have in this new reconstructed gaza. One of the few things in clear that it leaves the text is that “nobody will be forced to leave Gaza, and those who wish to leave them are free to do so, as well as return.”

On the other hand, according to the plan proposed by the US, Trump will personally control and supervise Gaza’s future. If he goes ahead, the strip will be governed by the temporary transitory government of “a technocratic and apolitical Palestinian committee, responsible for the daily management of public services and municipalities for the population of Gaza”. “This committee will be composed of qualified Palestinians and international experts, under the supervision and control of a new international transition body, the Peace Board, which will be directed and chaired by President Donald J. Trump, together with other members and heads of state that will be announced soon, among them former Prime Minister Tony Blair.”
