Israeli Prime Minister criticizes leaders after appeal to the interruption of the offensive in Gaza and restrictions on humanitarian aid
Benjamin Netanyahu accused Keir Stmerer, Emmanuel Macron and Mark Carney of “Encouraging Hamas” after they called for the interruption of Israel’s military offensive and the end of restrictions on humanitarian aid in Gaza.
Earlier this week, the UK, France and Canada leaders condemned the “flagrant” actions of the Israeli government in Gaza, warning that the United Kingdom and its allies would take “concrete actions” unless Netanyahu changed course.
In an X post on Thursday night, Israeli Prime Minister said Hamas wanted to “destroy the Jewish state” and “annihilate the Jewish people.”
“I could never understand how this simple truth escapes the leaders of France, Britain, Canada and others,” said Netanyahu.
“I tell President Macron, Prime Minister Carnery and Prime Minister Stmerer: when mass killers, rapists, babies killers and kidnappers thank you, you are on the wrong side of justice.”
Netanyahu said leaders’ actions were not “promoting peace,” but “encouraging Hamas to continue fighting forever.”
His comments were made in a video posted online in which he approached the murder of two employees of the Israeli embassy in Washington, DC, on Wednesday. The attack caused commotion around the world and led Israeli missions to reinforce security.
On Thursday, Starmer described the shooting as “anti-Semitic”, adding “my thoughts are with his colleagues, family and loved ones and, as always, I am sympathetic to the Jewish community.”
Downing Street said the government offered its “full support to the Israeli embassy in London.”
Earlier this week, relations between the United Kingdom and Israel reached the lowest level in decades after British Foreign Secretary David Lammy suspended negotiations on a new free trade agreement, stating that the calls of Israeli ministers to “purify Gaza” with the expulsion of Palestinians were repulsive, monstrous and extremists. The United Kingdom also imposed sanctions on some Israeli settlers.
On Friday, Armed Forces Minister Luke Pollard defended the United Kingdom’s conviction to Israel’s actions in Gaza and said he did not agree with Netanyahu’s claim that the United Kingdom, France and Canada were on the side of mass killers.
He said to BBC Radio 4’s Today Program: “I totally condemn the murders of Israeli diplomats in the United States, just as the prime minister did publicly.
“But we are also absolutely certain that the best way to bring peace to the Middle East is with an immediate ceasefire being restored in Gaza, with Hamas releasing hostages without further delay, and with large amounts of help reaching the Palestinian people in Gaza-food, water and medical supplies being delivered-without delay.
“This is the best way to ensure a safe future for Israelis and Palestinians: with a ceasefire, the release of hostages and the arrival of help.
“This is what the prime minister has been defending along with our allies this week, and we should not divert our focus from the critical humanitarian situation that still exists in Gaza.”
He said the government’s thoughts were with the families of the diplomats “brutally murdered in that anti -Semitic attack” in the US.
“We support Israel’s right to self -defense, as long as this is done within international humanitarian law, a position we have since those terrible attacks [do Hamas] on October 7th.
And we also make it very clear that we need to make sure help comes to people who are really suffering in Gaza right now. This is a consistent position that we have defended, both in particular and publicly, many months ago.
