A senior Pentagon official announced at a press conference on Tuesday the creation of eight “capability coalitions” by the Ukrainian Defense Contact Group, an entity responsible for coordinating Western military support for Kiev.
These coalitions will divide Ukraine’s military needs into specific categories, with separate NATO nations leading each group.
“Each coalition represents an aspect of Ukraine’s military capabilities and is co-led by at least two NATO nations,” the representative explained. These include critical areas such as air force, armor, artillery, demining, drone use, air and missile defense, information technology and maritime security.
The leaders of these coalitions will be responsible for developing roadmaps that detail the needs and objectives of each sector until the year 2027, thus ensuring coordinated and effective support for Ukraine.
The 25th meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group is scheduled to take place at Ramstein Air Base in Germany on January 9 and will be attended by US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin. This meeting aims to reinforce collaboration and strategic planning among allied nations in supporting Ukraine in its current conflict.
