Leaders from several countries approved a document containing 56 actions for the future of the planet during the Future Summit and United Nations (UN)held in New York, this Sunday, 22. The document, adopted by consensus, saw resistance from just seven nations, including Russia.

The pact covers a series of measures, including the implementation of Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals. Among the main actions are the eradication of poverty and hunger, the protection of civilians in armed conflicts, and efforts for a world free of nuclear weapons.

Furthermore, the document foresees the reform of the global governance system, with emphasis on the expansion of the UN Security Council to include more representatives from Latin America, Asia-Pacific and Africa. Another significant goal is the reform of the international financial architecture, especially to address climate change.

The text also expresses deep concern about the slow pace of progress in combating climate change and recognizes the need to step up support for developing countries, which are disproportionately affected by these global challenges.
