During the event, Musk stated: “Probably, well, I tend to be a little optimistic about deadlines, but 2026.” He added that by 2027, the vehicle would be available. The CEO highlighted that the Cybercab’s operating cost would be US$0.2 per mile, thanks to a charging system that does not require the use of plugs.

In addition to the Cybercab, Musk also revealed Tesla’s Robovan, designed to transport up to 20 people, expanding the company’s autonomous transport options.

The occasion also served for Musk to highlight Tesla’s progress in autonomous technology, mentioning the presence of 50 fully autonomous vehicles at the eventincluding models Ys and the Cybercab.

The company, however, faces significant regulatory challenges, with US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigating Tesla’s Autopilot technology after reports of crashes.

Musk’s promise to transform transportation into supervised autonomous driving is still accompanied by scrutiny and expectation regarding its realization.
