Remedies for people with disabilities would have been bought at inflated prices in exchange for bribes. Scandal will impact regional elections

A survey conducted by Management & Fit consultancy reveals that 73% of residents of Buenos Aires consider the alleged case of corruption between the National Disability Agency (andis) and the Javier Milei government as “severe” or “very serious”. The concern is significant even among the voters of Libertad Avanza, Milei’s party, which may be decisive in the upcoming legislative and regional elections.

According to the survey, conducted between August 25 and 26, 94.5% of residents of Buenos Aires are aware of the corruption scandal and 73.2% consider it “very serious” or “relatively serious”.

The study also points out that there is a significant impact of the scandal among Milei’s own voters: 37% of those who support the chainsaw defender also see the subject as something serious.

Management & Fit consultants warn that the situation is serious as it is a high percentage to consider in a polarized election.

On Wednesday (27), Milei was attacked with stones and bottles by protesters during a carreata organized by the party of which he is part, in the city of Lomas de Zamora, south of Greater Buenos Aires. According to G1, images that circulate on social networks show Milei waving to people in the bucket of a pickup when a riot begins.

The president was accompanied by Deputy José Luis Smort, one of the main candidates for the legislative elections of October. According to the government spokesman, there were no injuries.

It is the fault of the government

For 60% of respondents, the corruption scandal is the LA Libertad Avanza (LLA) scandal from the president, Karina Milei, secretary general of the presidency.

Similarly, 59.2% of respondents believe that audio recordings are true and reveal “a network of corruption within the administration.”

In this scenario, interviewees require government responses: 81% of respondents believe President Javier Milei should give a public response, and of these, 61.3% require him to do so urgently.

Argentine elections

This Wednesday, the campaign for the middle-term elections in Argentina begins. Next Sunday, August 31, the elections take place in the city of Corrientes, for legislature and executive. The government and all the chairs of the low and high chamber are in dispute.

The following Sunday, September 7, the election will take place in the province of Buenos Aires, for the Legislature. And on October 26 there are national elections of the middle of the term of office, in which part of the deputies of the Alta and Baixa Congress will be elected: 24 of the 72 senators and 127 of the 257 deputies.

The andis bribery case

The leakage of audio recordings attributed to Diego Spagnuolo, former director of andis, gave rise to the “Case Spagnolo”. The recordings, which analysts and opponents attribute to the then employee, reveal an alleged corruption network and bribery requirements of care service providers for disabilities.

The money, according to audio recordings, was intended for the presidential secretary general, Karina Milei-sister of the president-and her team. Spagnuolo spoke of significant amounts of money, stating that “Karina receives 3% and 1% goes to the operation.”

The alleged mechanism involved the Argentine Suiz Pharmacy, linked to Eduardo “Lule” Menem (cousin of the mayor, Martín Menem), mentioned as beneficiary and protective of the scheme. Spagnuolo even said he warned President Javier Milei about the theft.

The government’s response included Spagnuolo’s resignation and Alejandro Vilches’s appointment as an andis auditor, in charge of conducting a complete audit at the agency.

The lawyer Gregorio Dalbón, Defendor of former President Cristina Kirchner, filed a criminal complaint against Milei, Karina Milei, Eduardo “Lule” Menem, Spagnuolo himself and the owner of Suiz Argentina pharmacy, Eduardo Kovalivker, for crimes such as fraud, estelionato, criminal association and bribe.

Argentine court sorted and seizure operations seized approximately $ 200,000 of Kovalivker, as well as two cell phones and a spagnuolo notes counting machine.

In addition to audio recordings, journalistic investigations revealed that the Suiz Argentine pharmacy has closed multimillionaire agreements with ministries such as security and defense and gained a contract of more than 15 billion pesos to the hospital posed, which had numerous irregularities.
