Javier Milei resumed his agenda of “permanent tour”. Although there are hot topics in the country, such as the veto of the university budget or the poverty figures that will be known tomorrow, the president takes advantage of any event to show his political and ideological alignments with imperialism and the most reactionary right.

This is the case of his two-day tour of the United States. Although he will avoid getting involved in the American election, in an even fight between Trump and Harris, he will take advantage of it to give several messages.

The first was in the early hours of this Monday, on Wall Street, the mecca of financial capital. There he rang the “little bell” that marks the beginning of the stock market round. He went up to the stage together with the Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo; the Minister of Security, Patricia Bullrich; the Foreign Minister, Diana Mondino, and the Secretary General, Karina Milei. Then he walked among brokers who were betting millions on that giant roulette wheel.

Invited by the New York Stock Exchange, he then gave a talk to 200 businessmen, investors and traders in the same building of the New York Stock Exchange. There he gave a tailored report on the 10 months of his government and reaffirmed that his government’s commitment to fiscal balance “is unwavering and we are not willing to negotiate it.” It is a social adjustment to feed those vultures, who applauded the “libertarian” speech.

Continuing his meetings with millionaires, he will meet again with his idol Elon Musk, owner of Tesla and the X network. Everything indicates that it will be another “propaganda” meeting. The businessman and the president spend their time talking about “the ideas of freedom” and “free trade” but the investments never come. Better for the country, because Musk only provides money to plunder the natural resources and the work of a country, but a problem for the millenarian narrative.

In this case, he will also have a meeting with Google’s Vice President of Global Policy and Government Affairs, Karan Bhatia.

But the highlight of the tour is the speech he will give at the 79th General Assembly of the United Nations. The UN, beyond its role in upholding the geopolitical and economic rules of global capitalism, often marks discursive criticism of certain regimes, including the Milei government. In June, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHCHR), Volker Türk, asked the government to “respect the right to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression” after the brutal repression and arrests in the approval of the Ley Bases. The UN Committee on the Rights of the Child also expressed “serious concern about the impact that government policies may have on the protection of children’s rights.” Remember that 7 out of 10 children are already poor and thousands of tons of food from soup kitchens have been seized. Authorities from the organization also asked Milei’s administration to “guarantee the effective implementation of Law 26.150 on Comprehensive Sexual Education, which forms part of the mandatory school curriculum at all ages in accessible and confidential formats, including in indigenous languages, with special attention to the prevention of early pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections.”

He will also dedicate a moment of his speech to climate change denialism. He will do so in the midst of disasters that are sweeping the world but also Argentina. In Córdoba, the fire has already destroyed more than 15 thousand hectares and the government has denied any kind of assistance to the affected populations. Specialists point precisely to changes in the climate, for example hot spots and lack of humidity, as one of the main reasons for the disaster.

According to some media, the president will seek to “attract the attention” of the international press by speaking at the Assembly about an alleged “alignment” of the UN with the People’s Republic of China and “rescue Western values” (diario.ar).

Although few concrete results are expected, the right has placed many of its expectations on what is being decided in Washington and New York: a possible victory for Trump and a new disbursement from the IMF. Everything is up in the air.

Far from Wall Street, in Argentina, Milei’s story is beginning to be questioned. 10 months without results, an increase in poverty and adjustment, repression of retirees and recession in many sectors of the economy are increasing social unrest.
