With Milei as host and main speaker of the day, this Wednesday, the CPAC (Conservative Political Action Conference) began, one of the most relevant events for the international far-right that has been gaining space thanks to the impetus of Trumpism and the North American think thank. The Argentine president used his speech to call for redoubling the “cultural battle” against “lefties” around the world. It is a bet to go back in time and revive the privatist, individualist and patriarchal ideas of what they call the West.

Before the crisis of what Nancy Fraser called progressive neoliberalism (sustain capitalist exploitation with democratic concessions), Milei calls all those who maintain a favorable discourse on the State as communists. By questioning governments such as those of Lula in Brazil or Boric in Chile, it seeks attackalthough I don’t mention them, the achievements achieved by feminist or anti-discrimination movements like Black Lives Matter. “CPAC allows us to organize internationally so that left-handers do not enter us anywhere,” said the President with broken words during a reading of the document that made Mauricio Macri seem like a great orator.

To that end, Milei proposed a series of commandments to persecute, vilify, censor and repress all those who want to put limits on big capital and fight for their rights. The president emphasized that “the only way to combat socialism is from the right,” pointing against capitalist governments with “progressive” discourse because, according to him, they allow communism to advance. In reality, there are two ways to try to sustain the capitalist system in crisis, frontal attack or cooptation.

The speech of the ultra-conservative “liberal” (under dim lighting to try to hide the President’s insecurities) was full of inconsistencies, lies and defenses of nefarious characters. He stated that salaries in Argentina are increasing, that they protected the most vulnerable and that the economy is growing at 14% annually in the midst of an economic and social crisis rarely seen in the country. He bordered on ridiculousness in his defense of Gordo Dan, the streamer who had carried out an act with fascist aesthetics and called to form the “armed arm” of La Libertad Avanza; showering him with praise and committing to attending his program that airs on YouTube.

Just days before his first year at the head of the government ends, La Libertad Avanza copies the speech of North American think tanks in the hope of benefiting from Trump’s management which takes office in January 2025. However, it remains to be seen what the measures of the brand new president-elect will be after having carried out an electoral campaign where protectionism and MAGA (Make America Great Again) were the axis.

The CPAC, created in 1974 in the United States to promote politics against legal abortion, had its first edition in Argentina thanks to Milei’s submission to the northern country. Expositions such as those of Jair Bolsonaro, the former Trump official, Steve Bannon, or the daughter-in-law of the American president, had as their axis defending the imperialist policy that seeks to reinforce the submission of Latin American countries, support the genocide of the State of Israel on the Palestinian people and redouble the confrontation with China.

Nothing good for the workers and the oppressed of the world can come from the extreme right willing to do anything to recover the profits of large companies. Nor from the “progressive neoliberal” variants that have been showing that beyond discourse they have no real intentions of improving the quality of life of the vast majority. True communism, which seeks to end capitalist states to create a society of equals, without exploitation or oppression, is the only alternative to end genocides, wars and economic crises.
