Pablo Castilla: The first thing we wanted to ask you before these days is what is this flotilla initiative and what are the objectives it has?
Bruno Gilga: First of all, it is an honor to be talking with Esquerra Diari and the Spanish -speaking Hispanic public about this. The Global Summit Flotilla is the most recent international solidarity initiative and the next mission for Gaza. It is a non -violent humanitarian mission that involves activists, doctors, parliamentarians, people of all kinds, work, workers, students from more than 44 countries, even this number of countries is growing.
There were almost 30,000 people around the world who registered to participate. This initiative comes shortly after what we saw of the last missions, such as the Fleeta de la Libertad, Madleen or Handala missions, which had an important international support. These occurred more or less at the same time as the global march to Gaza, of which we participated, with other colleagues from our international network, of the convoy sumud of activists from the countries of North Africa and also companions of another initiative called Flotilla used. We all have been trying to reach the same objectives that are to break the illegal fence as Israel, that the Zionist entity, the illegitimate state of Israel has been imposing on Gaza in the last 17, 18 years and also denounce and stop the current phase of the genocide that extends to almost 80 years, but that in recent almost two years is at a level of barbarism and brutality even worse.
I believe that this level of horror, brutality, violence, cruelty, that millions and millions of people around the world are looking live on the Internet that Israel is imposing against the Palestinian people and also the level without limit of strength of the resistance of the Palestinian people, of their struggle for their right to exist, for their self -determination as a nation, for their right to have their own land against colonial occupation, these things are inspired by this moment. International in international active solidarity that has been expressed in all these initiatives, in the mass demonstrations in the streets of capitals and cities of dozens of countries as well, and it is part of that this humanitarian mission that is historical as you said.
Never before was there a mission of this scale, trying to reopen the corridor. I say reopening because that was done in other terms, at another time, shortly after the blockade in 2007, with missions also by sea. A humanitarian corridor was opened that Israel later closed brutally. Even later in 2010 in one of these missions he murdered 10 Turkish activists to maintain the blockade, which now serves to impose hunger as a gun by killing hundreds of people for hunger, in addition to other tens and tens of thousands, there are more than 62 thousand people with name and identified surnames, but then the real numbers are still much worse. So, the meaning of this is a very strong expression that workers, young people, the people of the world in the face of complicity, the responsibility of imperialist countries such as the United States and European powers and other bourgeois governments and political directions of the world, we are not going to be silent and we are willing, there are thousands of people who are arranged, to put their body in support to strengthen the struggles of the Palestinian people who are resisting.
PC: You talked just now about the criminal role of the great imperialist powers in this genocide. We see very clearly in Europe and also in the United States as these great powers tell us now about rearming on behalf of La Paz, in the name of the defense of alleged democratic values, at the same time that they endorse the genocide of the Palestinian people. We also see it here in the Spanish State with a government that is said progressive but that in recent months has continued to buy and sell weapons to Israel. In this international context, what do you think is the historical importance, the meaning of this mission?
BG: Look, no one can believe that it is by chance everything Israel does, with brutal violations of the most elementary human rights. In recent days Israel is moving forward, it is making other quality jumps in the genocide, trying to completely take the city of Gaza, to evict more than one million people, from Palestinians, with a level of brutality that we saw in recent days, for example with the attack on the Nasser hospital, the double bombardment of the Nasser hospital, which obviously only the doctors could kill the doctors, the lifeguards. How were the journalists of Al-Jazeera killed in a very controlled attack and no one can believe what it was? Even Israel acknowledges that it was calculated and what you try to say is that journalists were supposedly terrorists. Well, terrorist, it is very clear that it is the state of Israel.
So no one can believe that it is by chance that all these powers and bourgeois governments are maintaining their complicity in practice, even those who in the words condemn the genocide, as you say about the Spanish government. I am Brazilian, I can say the same about the Brazilian government, who in the words condemns the genocide, but maintains commercial, diplomatic relations, in fact in the middle of the genocide the export of Brazilian oil to Israel was increased by more than 50%.
The UN Special editor Albanese of the UN in its report on the economy of the genocide points to Spanish and Brazil companies, such as the oil companies that are profiting with the genocide. In the genocide that Israel commits against the Palestinians, the greatest interests of world imperialism are played, that is what is at stake, and that is why they maintain their complicity, no matter the level of brutality, catastrophe, barbarism, human rights violations, international law that is already totally broken by Israel at a level that cannot even be described.
On the other hand, also in the Palestinian cause, that is, in the possibility that the Palestinian people, with their struggle and with the support of international active solidarity that has been growing, can defeat Zionism, conquer their right to a free Palestine from the river to the sea, there are also the interests of all oppressed peoples, of the entire working class of the world, in its fight against imperialism, against capitalism, against capitalism, against capitalism, against capitalism, against capitalism, against capitalism, against capitalism, against capitalism, against capitalism, against capitalism, against capitalism, against capitalism, against capitalism.
A victory of the Palestinian people would be a historic, monumental victory, for all oppressed, all peoples, the entire working class of the world, in our struggle, for our liberation. So, I think this is the perspective with which we, of the Left Daily International Network, have been participating in each of these initiatives and we are now participating in the Global Sumud Root, wanting to be part of the same international phenomenon of solidarity, for recognizing at the same time, with the perspective of recognizing that this is the historical struggle of the entire working class with which we are. The fight against imperialism, capitalism and all exploitation.
