Software giant officials protested his role in boosting the civilian massacre in Gaza by the Israeli army
Microsoft has implemented a policy that blocks emails from employees that contain the words “Palestinian”, “Gaza” or “genocide” on its internal Exchange servers, the Drop Site News said.
According to the Azure for Apartheid, a group of pro-Palestinian employees of Microsoft, an automated filter silently prevents these emails from reaching the recipients.
The filter came into force on Wednesday after the Microsoft Build Developer Conference, which faced repeated interruptions by the activist group, added the Drop Site.
Microsoft has faced internal divergences of upset employees with the company’s collaboration with the Israeli army in the ongoing war against the Palestinians in Gaza, which academics consider a genocide widely.
Employees protested against the provision of cloud services and other critical infrastructures used by the Israeli Army by the company.
Prior to the annual build event, aimed at developers and technology enthusiasts around the world, the company released a report claiming that an internal investigation found that Microsoft operations did not harm civilians in Gaza.
Microsoft has provided technology to the Israeli Ministry of Defense, “offering personalized proposals and significant discounts on cloud and AI services. These agreements, traded and expanded over months, have positioned Microsoft as a fundamental technology supplier during Israeli military operations in Gaza,” wrote the Drop Site, based on an analysis of internal documents from the company.
Microsoft did not contest the authenticity of the documents cited by the Drop Site and acknowledged that it had provided Artificial Intelligence Services (IA) to the Israeli Ministry of Defense, but still said it had conducted a review that did not find “no evidence that Microsoft’s Azure and AI technologies, or any other software of ours, were used to harm people.”
Days after the Israeli offensive in Gaza’s offensive in 2023, Microsoft began to seek new contracts with the Israeli army, providing for great military spending. Microsoft quickly became one of the 500 largest global clients in the Israeli army.
In April 2024, The Guardian and +972 magazine reported that, according to Israeli intelligence sources, the Military Bombarding Campaign in Gaza used an AI -powered database that, at one point, identified 37,000 potential targets based on their apparent calls with Hamas, according to sources of intelligence involved in the war.
Sources of intelligence claim that Israeli military authorities allowed a large number of Palestinian civilians to be killed in attacks on targets identified by an AI system known as Lavender.
“The machine did it coldly. And that made it easier,” killed civilians, said an intelligence officer.
On Monday, a Microsoft employee who interrupted CEO Satya Nadella’s main speech at the Build conference was fired.
During a speech by Jay Parikh, chief of Koreai, on Tuesday, a worker shouted: “Jay! My people are suffering! Corted ties with Israel! No Azure for apartheid! Free Palestine!” Before being removed by security.
