Tech giant Microsoft could be the next company to invest in Bitcoin (BTC). Yesterday you could read in the Bitcoin news that Microsoft shareholders will vote on whether part of the company’s reserves should be invested in the digital currency. The company would thus follow in the footsteps of MicroStrategy.
Bitcoin bull Michael Saylor, who heads MicroStrategy’s Bitcoin strategy, responded to the news and said he was eager to help the company embrace Bitcoin.
Michael Saylor responds to Bitcoin news
MicroSoft filed a document with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) last Thursday showing that shareholders will be allowed to vote on a possible investment in Bitcoin on December 10.
Naturally, Saylor is thrilled with this news. He is a big supporter of the coin and has roughly $17 billion worth of Bitcoins on the balance sheet with his MicroStrategy. The US software provider was the first publicly traded company to buy Bitcoin in 2020, and no other company has come close to matching its holdings.
The proposal to invest part of Microsoft’s coffers in Bitcoin comes from The National Center for Public Policy (NCPPR). The document even referred to MicroStrategy:
”MicroStrategy – which like Microsoft is a technology company, but unlike Microsoft has Bitcoin on its balance sheet – saw its shares outperform Microsoft’s by 313% this year, despite only generating a fraction of Microsoft’s revenue. And they are not the only ones.”
Saylor yesterday addressed Satya Nadella, the current CEO of MicroSoft, on social media platform X and offered his help. “If you want to make the next trillion dollars for MSFT shareholders, call me,” the Bitcoiner wrote.
MicroSoft management is against it
The bad news, however, is that MicroSoft’s board has already urged shareholders to vote against the proposal.
The council explains that the company does not need to make an assessment to invest in Bitcoin because “MicroSoft’s management is already carefully considering this topic.”
“Microsoft has strong and appropriate processes in place to manage and diversify its corporate treasury for the long-term benefit of shareholders and this requested public review is without merit,” the filing said.
