The vice president of the Consell and councilor of Social Services, Equality and Housing, Susana Camarero, will be the new spokesperson for the Valencian Government, replacing the councilor of Finance, Economy and Public Administration, Ruth Merino, who held this position until now. That of Camarero is the first change made by the president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, since the fateful DANA that devastated four Valencian regions and left more than 219 dead and 13 missing.

The assumption of the Executive spokesperson by Camarero is little new for the severity of the crisis suffered by the Valencian Government and that points to Mazón himself, who has not yet sufficiently explained his role in the key hours of the DANA. Vice President Camarero was already assuming the de facto spokespersonship of the Consell in the last ten days after the hesitant beginnings of the crisis by Ruth Merino and the Minister of Justice, Salomé Pradas, who were completely overwhelmed by the events.

Camarero has given a twist to the communication of the crisis and has tried to establish the strategy for reconstruction. Of course, she will not be the councilor in charge of the newly created macro-council that takes over the management of the disaster starting this week. Other names are being considered for this portfolio, hopefully from the business world and who can be independent.

During the next few days, more details will be released about the changes in the Consell, which will have a new structure adapted to the economic and social recovery plan of the Valencian Community after the consequences caused by the flood of October 29, as reported the Generalitat in a statement.

Last Friday, President Carlos Mazón announced, in his appearance in Les Corts, that the new structure of the Consell will include a transversal vice-presidency that will coordinate the actions of the economic and social reconstruction of Valencia and an Emergency and Interior Department focused on responding to crisis situations in an agile and coordinated manner and with prevention powers to protect and ensure the safety of Valencians.

It is not easy for Carlos Mazón to find profiles for the Government crisis that will allow him to take the political initiative again. At the moment, all the focus is on him and the appearance before the Valencian Courts has not made the pressure decrease. It seems more than likely that Mazón will carry out several dismissals and the main one mentioned is the Minister of Justice, who has powers in Emergencies and whom the Presidency points out as responsible. Pradas has been deleted from the communication, as has the Minister of Industry, Nuria Montes, for her unfortunate words about the victims and her encounter with a worker in her department who lost her husband and a daughter in DANA.
