Holding on to the hardware between two wagons outside, the 40-year-old Hungarian covered 30 kilometers before the emergency stop. The train traveled at 282 km/h.

A 40-year-old man was unharmed after clinging to the hardware between one carriage and another of a high-speed train in Germany and, in the middle of winter, traveling around 30 kilometers before the train made an emergency stop.

The suspect, who is from Hungary, had boarded this Thursday (17/01) in Munich, Bavaria, on a train bound for Lübeck, in Schleswig-Holstein.

He claims to have taken a break outside to smoke a cigarette when the train stopped in Ingolstadt, about an hour away from Munich. When the train resumed its journey, he jumped between one carriage and another, clinging to the hardware.

He justified his attitude by stating that he did not want to lose the luggage that was on the train.

Witnesses who witnessed the action notified the emergency services to the line operator, the state-owned Deutsche Bahn, which made an emergency stop around ten minutes later.

Until this happened, however, the train reached a speed of 282 kilometers per hour.

“It’s lucky he found something to hold on to”

A police officer who happened to be traveling on the train detained the man and dispatched him onto another train bound for Nürnberg, where he was handed over to federal police officers.

The suspect did not have a ticket and, because of this, he will have to pay a fine. In addition, he may also face a lawsuit for “disrupting” the Deutsche Bahn train service.

A spokesman for the German PF said he was surprised that the man was unharmed. “It’s lucky he found something to hold on to, because ICE [trem rápido] I had accelerated shortly after leaving the station,” he told German tabloid Bild.

The corporation appealed to the population, asking them to avoid “nonsense [semelhantes] that put their lives at risk.”
