The Planalto Palace issued a note about the telephone conversation held on the morning of Monday between the presidents of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, and the United States, Donald Trump.

“President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva received, this morning (6/10), call from President Donald Trump of the United States. In a friendly tone, the two leaders talked for 30 minutes, when they remembered the good chemistry they had in New York during the UN General Assembly. The two presidents reiterated the positive impression of that meeting.

President Lula has described contact as an opportunity to restore the friendly relationships of 201 years between the two greatest democracies in the West. He recalled that Brazil is one of the three G20 countries with whom the United States maintains surplus in the balance of goods and services. Requested the removal of the 40% surcharge imposed on national products and restrictive measures applied against Brazilian authorities.

President Trump designated Secretary of State Marco Rubio to continue negotiations with Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, Chancellor Mauro Vieira and Finance Minister Fernando Haddad.
