Lula condemns US attack on Venezuela and capture of Maduro

President classified acts as a very serious affront to the sovereignty of the South American country and an extremely dangerous precedent for the entire international community

President Lula spoke out on social media about the large-scale bombing of Venezuela by the United States, which occurred in the early hours of this Saturday (3/1).

Speaking on social media, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced the attack on Venezuela. Trump claimed that there was success and the president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, and his wife, Cilia Flores, were captured and removed from the country.

“The bombings on Venezuelan territory and the capture of its president cross an unacceptable line. These acts represent a very serious affront to Venezuela’s sovereignty and yet another extremely dangerous precedent for the entire international community,” wrote Lula

Venezuela’s Defense Minister, Vladimir Padrino, rejected the presence of foreign troops in the country and called the attack “vile and cowardly”. Padrino asked for international help.

Trump accuses Maduro of leading a criminal organization focused on international drug trafficking. US bombings of boats in Caribbean waters have occurred in recent months.

However, on several occasions, the president of Venezuela denied involvement in trafficking and also asked for support from international organizations.

Dialogue and cooperation

In his statement, Lula calls for a vigorous response from the UN, the United Nations, on the episode.
