A teleconference involving the President of Venezuela is scheduled for next Wednesday, the 7th, Nicolas Maduroand the presidents of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silvafrom Colombia, Gustavo Petroand Mexico, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

According to information from G1diplomats from the four countries negotiated the meeting in recent days, with a recommendation from Itamaraty that other countries also be involved.

The meeting takes place in a context where Brazil, Colombia and Mexico have not yet recognized Maduro’s reelection, demanding the publication of the voting records.

These countries are considered key in the search for a solution to the Venezuelan crisis. The Venezuelan opposition, led by Edmundo Gonzalezclaims that he was elected with more than 70% of the votes, accusing Maduro of hiding electoral documents.

In addition to the talks with Maduro, President Lula has planned a separate phone call with González. The Brazilian government’s approach to the Venezuelan situation has been praised by both government officials and the opposition.

In a recent interview with the program Fantástico, the Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado thanked Lula for his “firm stance” in the electoral issues of his country.
