The US claims that three jets “crashed” over Kuwait “due to an apparent friendly fire incident”. The Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense reported that several American planes had crashed and that the pilots were safe.
Kuwaiti air defenses mistakenly shot down three American F-15 fighter jets carrying out operations related to Iran, US Central Command (Centcom) said. All six crew members ejected safely, were rescued without issue and are in stable condition, according to a statement.
“During active combat – which included attacks by Iranian aircraft, ballistic missiles and drones – US Air Force fighters were mistakenly shot down by Kuwaiti air defenses,” US Central Command (Centcom) said, adding that the three fighters “crashed over Kuwait due to an apparent friendly fire incident.”
Central Command added that the circumstances surrounding the incident are still being investigated and that additional information will be released as it becomes available.
