We reproduce below an article published in Révolution permanent, a newspaper that is part of the international network the daily left in France.

This Monday, Marine Le Pen and several members of his National Group Party (RN) involved in a masty case of almost 7 million euros were convicted. The main figure of the extreme right in France was sentenced to four years in prison, two of them at their home, at a fine of 100,000 euros and, above all, five years of political disqualification with provisional execution, which would prevent him from presenting himself in the 2027 elections. The sentence was justified by the central role played by Marine Le Pen in the organization of a corruption system that the investigation of the process has taken to light.

The other members of the Le Pen party that were accused were sentenced to prison sentences between six and eighteen months, in addition to fines and condemnations of inelegability with provisional execution, with the exception of Louis Aliot, which may remain mayor of Perpignan. These series sentences provisionally end a process that has served to remember that RN is a party like any other, bourgeois and corrupt, contrary to the “anti -system” image on which it was built.

But, on the political level, the consequences of the decision go far beyond this observation. By currently depriving one of the country’s main political figures of the possibility of presenting the presidential 2027, Marine Le Pen’s conviction could aggravate the political crisis that France is experiencing. Keep in mind that Prime Minister François Bayrou is more weakened than ever and only remains in power thanks to the support of the Socialist Party and the National Group. Within this framework, the extreme right has already begun to speak of a possible motion of censure against Bayrou to make it clear that he will use all the means at his disposal to prevent this judicial decision, playing at the same time the victimization to position himself as the number one opponent of the Macron government, while defending Le Pen.

The condemnation of Le Pen shows the reality of the endemic nature of corruption within the regime, which affects all its parties, while on the other hand it leaves everyone’s sight of everyone’s justice system under the supervision of the Executive. Thus, for example, the Modem (Democratic Movement), a party founded by the current prime minister, had been sentenced in 2024 for embezzlement of public funds, a conviction after which, however, the current prime minister and central ally of Macron was forgave, who was acquitted for lack of evidence, although it was “very likely” (obviously obvious) that was totally involved.

In this sense, trusting the justice system in the hope of curbing the RN is a dangerous dead end. On the one hand, no judicial sentence will stop the extreme right and its reactionary ideas, which prosper thanks to the crisis and the policies of successive governments. On the other hand, the tools used against the extreme right are the same that will attack tomorrow the adversaries of the left or even reformists, as we have seen in recent years in Latin America, with the development of a true judicial bonapartism.

To fight the extreme right there is only one way: that of the mass movement, around a labor program that attacks the bases of this system, regardless of the institutions of the ruling classes. In order not to leave the political crisis in the hands of the regime, it is essential that the labor movement intervene with its own claims, and defend them through class struggle methods.

In the democratic level, and in the face of endemic corruption that show processes against personalities such as former president Sarkozy and Marine Le Pen, it is necessary to fight to end this political caste at the service of entrepreneurs, demanding the creation of a single assembly whose deputies receive the average salary, are chosen for two years by local assemblies and are revocable at any time. These claims must be articulated with a program to pay the patterns and counteract the racist offensives, the only way to seriously fight against the extreme right of the National Group.
