The judge of the National Court Antonio Piña has opened proceedings following a complaint filed by the Libertad y Justicia association against the Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, despite the fact that he does not have jurisdiction to do so. Puente is certified so he can only be investigated and, if appropriate, tried by the Supreme Court.
Legal sources have confirmed to Europa Press that, in his order, the magistrate has asked the Prosecutor’s Office to report on whether the court should investigate Puente. Libertad y Justicia attributes crimes of reckless homicide, negligence, injuries and malfeasance to the minister and other people.
The sources consulted by Europa Press see it as difficult for the proceedings to become a case in the National Court due, precisely, to that question of jurisdiction, given that Puente is registered before the Supreme Court.
