Brazilian government said that “deplore” Israeli decision
The suspension of humanitarian aid Gaza received convictions from the Brazilian government. In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has asked Israel to reverse the decision to block the entry of goods, medicines and international aid in the territory, classifying attitude as a threat to ceasefire.
“The Brazilian government deplores the Israeli decision to suspend the entry of humanitarian aid in Gaza, which exacerbates the precarious humanitarian situation and weakens the ceasefire in force, Itamaraty said.
Brazil has recalled that Israel is required to not interrupt basic services and to proceed with humanitarian assistance to Gaza. According to the Brazilian government, the blockade constitutes serious violation of humanitarian rights.
“By exhorting the immediate reversal of the measure, Brazil recalls that Israel has an obligation – as recognized by the International Court of Justice in its provisional measures of 2024 – to ensure the provision of essential basic services and humanitarian assistance to the population of Gaza, without impediments. Deliberate obstruction and political use of humanitarian aid are a serious violation of international humanitarian law. ”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has asked, both Israel and Hamas, the resumption of negotiations.
“Brazil urges the parties to strict compliance with the terms of the ceasefire agreement and to engage in negotiations in order to ensure permanent cessation of hostilities, taken from the Israeli forces of Gaza, liberation from all hostages and establishing robust mechanisms for the admission of unimpeded, predictable and necessary scale,” the statement concluded.
End of ceasefire
Since Sunday (2), the entry of humanitarian aid and other goods in the Gaza Strip is suspended. Israel made the decision after the Hamas Group, which manages the territory, rejecting the extension of the first phase of the ceasefire agreement. Started in January, the agreement ended on Saturday (1st).
After the suspension, Israel attacked the Gaza Strip again. According to the Hamas Ministry of Health, four people were killed and 12 were injured in the early hours after the end of the truce agreement.
Hamas, which accuses Israel to manipulate the terms of the agreement, calls for a permanent ceasefire, the complete withdrawal of Israeli troops and the reconstruction of the territory.
The Israeli government, which claims to be willing to extend the agreement until the end of Ramadan (sacred month of Muslims) and Jewish Easter, had offered the increase in humanitarian aid flow and the continuity of hostage and prisoners exchange.
