Eleven Brazilians resident in the state of Palestine are prisoners in Israel, says a statement from Brazilian diplomacy
The Brazilian government became aware of “with deep dismay” of the death of Brazilian adolescent Walid Khalid Abdalla Ahmad, in the Israeli prison of Megido and charges an investigation from the Israeli government about what happened, Itamaraty said on Tuesday (25).
“The Brazilian government is sympathetic to the family and friends of the National and conveys sincere condolences, when it will continue to demand from the government of Israel the necessary explanations about the death of the minor,” says the statement of Brazilian diplomacy.
The teenager was arrested on September 30, 2024 in Cijordan, Palestinian territory occupied by Israel, and brought by Israeli forces to the arrest of Megido in Israeli territory.
Itamaraty points out that “the circumstances and the exact date of the death have not yet been clarified” and points out that eleven Brazilians resident in the state of Palestine are arrested in Israel, “most of whom were not formally accused or judged, in clear violation of international humanitarian law.”
“In line with its international obligations, the Israeli government should conduct a swift and independent investigation about the causes of death, as well as to publicize its conclusions,” says the note.
In a statement on Monday, the Palestinian Arab Federation in Brazil (Fepal), charged from the Brazilian government to break diplomatic relations with Israel.
“Perhaps it is time for Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira to review the very soft statement on October 23, 2024, which states that the break of ties with Tel Aviv’s genocidas’ was not into consideration,” says Fepal’s note.
The statement points out that the time of diplomacy was “buried” by Israel and snake of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva a new position in relation to the government of Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu. Fepal points out that the breakdown of diplomatic ties and cooperation agreements with Israel “is a moral-and legal obligation!-From the Brazilian state with humanity, with the Palestinian people under the final solution with the Brazilian-Palestine community, under penalty of joining history as actor accused of complicity with the Palestinian holocaust.”
The Federation also points out that the Megiddo Detention Center is known for “employing horrifying torture methods, including electric shocks, beating, food deprivation and even the use of dogs to torture Palestinian hostages.”
