Israeli Minister instructs military to block sailboat pass for help with activists on board. “To the Greta Anti -Semitic and his friends, I say, return, because they will not arrive in Gaza,” says head of the country’s defense folder.
The government of Israel ordered on Sunday (08/06) that the military of the country prevent a humanitarian aid boat on their way to Gaza to reach the coast of the Palestinian enclave, the target of a naval blockade.
The order was given by Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz. He also warned the crew of the Madleen sailboat, the ship of the so -called “Flotilla of Freedom” to return. On the boat, which departed from Sicily last weekend, are 12 activists, including Swedish Greta Thunberg and Brazilian Thiago Ávila.
“I ordered the FDI [Forças de Defesa de Israel] They act to prevent the Madleen sailboat from reaching Gaza. To the Greta Anti -Semitic and his friends, I say clearly: to return, for they will not arrive in Gaza, ”said Katz, in statements released by his office.
Katz added that Israel will not allow anyone to break the naval block to Palestinian territory, which, according to it, aims to prevent Hamas from importing weapons.
According to activists aboard the Madleen, the vessel is carrying children’s formula, food, diapers, hygiene products for women, desalination kits, medical supplies and children’s prostheses.
Israel has been imposing a blockade on the performance of humanitarian aid organizations in Gaza, where about 2 million people have lived since early March. Recently, Israelis began to allow only obscure organization without experience to distribute food in the enclave.
Called the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), it has been criticized for disorganization in distribution and has been accused by ARÉA experts to be a facade organization that aims to force the evacuation of Palestinians from vast areas of the enclave.
GAZA APPROACH
The Madleen sailboat arrived on Sunday to the coast of Egypt and continued a trip to the Gaza Strip, the campaign organizers indicated in a statement.
The British flag vessel left Gaza, according to the organizers, with the objective of “delivering humanitarian aid, breaking Israeli block and giving visibility to continuous suffering in the Palestinian enclave”.
“We sailed off the Egyptian coast. It’s okay,” said German human rights activist Yasemin Akar, who explained that the ship has already departed from Alexandria and that it is expected to reach the Palestinian enclave at the dusk on Sunday.
“We are a little distance from the territorial waters of Gaza,” Akar said in a statement, warning that activists were being followed by Israeli surveillance drones.
Prior to Katz’s orders, the German activist had already mentioned the possibility of a possible action by the Israelis.
“If Israel attacks us, it will be another war crime. We did not embark on this mission if we did not believe we would arrive at Gaza,” said Akar.
The International Committee to break the London -based Gaza Serce, said that “the approach of the Madleen to the coast of Gaza represents a brave challenge to the unjust policies surrounding civilians and a message of solidarity from the people of the free world towards our people in Gaza.”
MEP Rima Hassan, who is also aboard the sailboat, called on to the international community to ensure a safe passage from the vessel.
Flotilha da Freedom, formed in 2010, is an international movement of solidarity with the Palestinian people, which actively opposes the Israeli block to the Gaza Strip.
The conflict between Palestinians and Israelis again intensified after Israel break a ceasefire in March and launch new military operations in the Gaza Strip. The current war at Enclave broke out on October 7, 2023, when the Hamas group, which controlled Gaza, launched a terrorist offensive against Israel, killing 1,200 people and kidnapped over 200.
In more than a year and a half of conflict, the total number of dead in the Gaza range since the beginning of the Israeli counterofafensive in October 2023 has passed 57,000, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health, controlled by the Hamas Group.
