Intensification of Israeli bombings kills more than 1,100 in three weeks, while forces they are preparing to occupy the city
Israel launched another night of deadly bombing in the city of Gaza, with attacks on tents that housed internally displaced Palestinians, killing several children and hurting others. At least 50 Palestinians were killed, according to health officials.
One of the attacks hit a makeshift camp in the Al-Nasr neighborhood, west of the city of Gaza, burning several tents.
This is the latest of a wave of growing attacks against fields that houses displaced Palestinians in the city of Gaza, which has suffered intensified Israeli bombings in recent days amid reports of plans to occupy the city and to force its Palestinian population.
Recent attacks included armed quadcopters launching incendiary bombs in makeshift shelters late at night, causing widespread fires and panic.
According to Dr. Muneer AlbourSh, Director General of the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, at least 1,100 Palestinians were killed and 6,000 have been injured in the city of Gaza in the last 20 days since the intensification of the bombing campaign.
Albredh accused Israel of “deceiving” the media by claiming that he has not yet launched a large-scale attack on the city of Gaza, while tens of thousands of people have been forcibly expelled and hundreds of residential buildings have been destroyed in areas such as Jabalia, Al-Nazla, Sheikh Radwan, Al-Zaytoun and Al-Sabra.
He also said that the only medical center attending the area was set on fire by Israeli forces.
The growing attacks occur while nearly one million Palestinians in the city of Gaza continue to suffer from the hunger imposed by Israel.
According to the Ministry of Palestinian Health, three more malnutrition deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of hunger -related deaths to 370, including 131 children.
The total number of dead since Israel started its genocide in October 2023 has exceeded 64,000, with over 161,000 injured.
Israel confirms rejection of the truce offer
Elsewhere, Hamas issued a statement on Wednesday night reaffirming its acceptance of a ceasefire proposal presented on August 18, which was almost identical to the terms previously required by Israel.
The group added that it has not yet received an answer from the Israeli side through mediators.
“The movement reaffirms its readiness to move forward with a comprehensive agreement,” the statement said.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office responded quickly, discarding the announcement.
“Unfortunately, this is another manipulation of Hamas that contains nothing new,” says the statement.
Netanyahu reiterated his revised conditions for the end of the war, which include the liberation of all hostages, the disarmament of Hamas, the demilitarization of the Gaza Strip and the continuity of Israeli safety control over the territory.
