Security Office and Israeli Political Affairs also approved five immediate actions for the end of the war. Notice says operation includes the provision of humanitarian aid.

In a new escalation in the conflict that has lasted 22 months in Gaza, Israel’s security office and political affairs approved on Friday (08/08) the plan of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, to occupy the city of Gaza, in the Palestinian territory of the Gaza Strip.

After the decision, the cabinet issued a statement in which he states that most ministers do not believe that the alternative plan presented previously reached the total defeat of Hamas or the return of all hostages.

The note also says that Israeli army operations should include humanitarian aid.

The military will “prepare to take control of the city of Gaza, while providing humanitarian aid to the civilian population outside the combat zones,” says the text.

The statement still cites five immediate actions for the end of the war: the return of all Israeli hostages, alive or dead; Hamas disarmament; the demilitarization of the gaza range; Israel -controlled security in the Gaza Strip; Installation of an alternative civil government other than Hamas or the Palestinian Authority.

Despite increasingly intense criticisms in the country and abroad about the war that has lasted nearly two years in Palestinian territory, Netanyahu said on Thursday that he argues that Israel assumes military control of the entire Gaza Strip.

“It’s our intention,” he said in an interview with the American station Fox News when asked if Israel would take control of the entire territory. He also stated that the plan, after taking the region, would be Israel to surrender the territory to Arab forces that would govern it.

Hamas countered Netanyahu’s plans, stating that the people of Gaza will “continue to challenge occupation” and “expanding aggression against the Palestinian people will not be easy.” He also called the decision to take control of the city of Gaza a “war crime.”

The Islamic group is considered a terrorist organization by the European Union (EU), Germany, the United States (US) and others.

Opposition classifies plan as “catastrophe”

Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid described the security office decision to capture the city of Gaza as a “catastrophe” that “will lead to many other disasters,” he wrote on platform X on Friday.

He also said that the planned outlet of the largest city in the Gaza Strip should lead to the death of more hostages, as well as the death of many Israeli soldiers.

Lapid argued that Netanyahu was pressured by government coalition partners, ministers Itamar Ben-Gvir (National Security) and Bezalel Smotrich (Finance), and that the approval of the plan contradicts the objectives of Israel’s military leaders.

UltraDireitists, both ministers defend the full capture of the Gaza Strip and the expulsion of the approximately 2 million Palestinians living in the territory.

Criticism of London and Beijing

United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Strmer has classified the plan as “wrong”: “This measure will not contribute to the end of the conflict or the liberation of hostages,” he said, warning that new actions of Israel “will only lead to the most bloodshed.”

China also manifested itself, expressing “serious concerns” with the plan, installing Israel to “cease immediately their dangerous initiatives.”

“Gaza belongs to the Palestinian people and is an inseparable part of Palestinian territory,” said a spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry through a message to the AFP news agency.

“The correct way to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and to ensure the release of hostages is an immediate ceasefire. The complete resolution of the conflict in Gaza depends on a ceasefire. Only then will it be possible to pave the way to relieve tensions and ensure regional security,” the spokesman concluded.

UN: Plan must be interrupted

United Nations Human Rights Chief of Human Rights (UN), Volker Turk, said on Friday that Israel’s military escalation to take the city of Gaza will cause more deaths and suffering and should be interrupted immediately.

In a statement, Turk stated that the Israeli plan goes in the opposite direction to the decision of the International Court (CIJ), which urges Israel to end the occupation as soon as possible, and reaches a solution of two states and the Palestinian law to sovereignty.

“Based on all evidence so far, this new climb will result in more mass forced displacements, more deaths, more suffering, foolish destruction and atrocious crimes. Instead of intensifying this war, the Israeli government should put all efforts to save the life of Gaza’s civilians, allowing the total and unrestricted flow of humanitarian aid. Palestinian armed, ”said Turk.

Almost 200 Palestinians starved in Gaza since the beginning of the war, about half of them children, according to the Ministry of Health of Gaza, an organ linked to Hamas.

About 1,200 people were killed and 251 hostages to Gaza in Hamas’ terrorist attack on Southern Israel communities on October 7, 2023. Israeli retaliation in Gaza has since left more than 61,000 Palestinians killed, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health.
