The Israel Defense Forces stated this Wednesday (4) that they had begun a new wave of “large-scale attacks” against targets linked to the Iranian regime in Tehran. According to a military statement, this is the tenth offensive of this type since the beginning of the most recent confrontation between Israel and Iran, which began last weekend.

According to the Israeli Army, bombings carried out during the night targeted command centers that would be used by the Iranian internal security forces and the Basij militia, a paramilitary organization linked to the Revolutionary Guard.

Residents of the Iranian capital reported to the international press that they heard intense explosions throughout the night. A resident of northern Tehran said the attacks were “quite strong” and described the early hours as “a bad night.” He said he did not know exactly which areas were hit and reported uncertainty about which regions of the city could be considered safe.

Iranian state media confirmed reports of explosions in different parts of the country on Wednesday morning. An image geolocated by international vehicles showed a thick column of smoke near the city of Isfahan, in the center of the country.

The Iranian government has not yet released an official toll on casualties or structural damage related to the new offensive. The episode generated more warnings from the international community regarding the risk of an increase in the conflict in the Middle East.
