“We will surely move forward with a plan of struggle next week and will probably begin with a work stoppage,” Omar Maturano told El Destape radio.

This possibility was reportedly discussed at the “national meeting” that brought together unions belonging to different groups in the transport sector: Pilots, Truck Drivers, UTA, Railway Workers and Maritime Workers.

One of the “hottest” points is that of Aerolíneas: “the conflict with the aeronautical workers brought us together to sit down at a common table to establish a plan of struggle that all the transport unions will have to carry out through this national table,” said Maturano. He also denounced what is more than obvious at this point: “the Government does not want to dialogue with the unions” and denounced that “they are violating article 14 bis of the Constitution” by preventing the right to strike. “In Europe they carry out strikes for an indefinite period, but here if you carry out a 24-hour strike they want to intervene in the union, sell off the companies,” he complained.

It should be made clear that in Europe, unions call strikes first of all, at least in the face of harsh attacks such as those they have faced in France or England in recent times. If unions called strikes here, we could confirm, or not, Maturano’s hypothesis. We can assume that a strong measure by all unions, supported by the rank and file and the paralysis of industries and transport, cannot be stopped by any “protocol” or “decree.”

Maturano acted as spokesman for the group of transport unions, but in his statements he did not clarify how they plan to involve all the workers who operate railways, airplanes, buses and freight. If in addition to the “small tables” there will be “large assemblies.” And if in addition this unity will break any sectoral spirit to promote unitary measures with other aggrieved sectors (teachers, state workers, metalworkers, tire workers, retirees, students).

The left proposes setting a date for this strike, and that it be the starting point for a plan of struggle that brings together all the demands of the working people until the Milei plan is overthrown.
