The 20 -year agreement aims to deepen bilateral ties, particularly in defense cooperation, as well as trade, energy and finance.
The Parliament of Iran approved on May 21 a 20 -year strategic partnership pact with Russia, signed earlier this year, the Iranian state media said.
“In a public session yesterday, the representatives agreed, by majority vote, to urgently review this bill, and the project was placed on the parliament agenda for today,” according to the Tasnim news agency.
“After listening to the opinions of the favorable and opposite, the parliamentarians approved the bill of the bill with 191 votes in favor, eight opposite votes and two abstentions,” the agency said.
The comprehensive strategic partnership agreement was signed in January at a ceremony held by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
Last month, the Russian ratified the agreement, which was established for 20 years, with the possibility of a subsequent extent of five years.
The pact aims to deepen bilateral ties, particularly in defense cooperation. It also includes strengthening financial, energy and commercial cooperation.
Although it is not a mutual defense clause, it compromises both countries to joint actions against shared military threats, greater technical-military collaboration and joint exercises.
“To strengthen national security and face common threats, contracting intelligence and safety agencies will exchange information and experiences and increase the level of their cooperation,” the agreement says, adding that “contracting parts will consult and cooperate in combating common and regional bilateral and regional security military threats.”
Iran and Russia have intensified the ties of defense in recent years. Tehran recognized that he sent missiles and drones to Russia to his war against Ukraine. Russia would also have helped strengthen Iranian air defense.
Ratification occurs while Iran continues to face sanctions and the threat of an attack by the US and Israel to its atomic energy program – despite nuclear negotiations between Tehran and Washington.
Russia and Iran have been the target of US economic sanctions in recent years.
