Iranian officials, along with representatives of regional allies Lebanon, Iraq and Yemen, will meet in Tehran on Thursday, 1.

The meeting aims to discuss a possible response to Israel’s recent actions, which included the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on Wednesday, 31, and of a senior Hezbollah commander in Beirut on Tuesday, 30.

According to CNN, citing the Reuters news agency, the meeting will be attended by representatives of Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Yemen’s Houthi movement, Lebanese Hezbollah and Iraqi resistance groups.

A senior Iranian official said that after the meeting, “Iran and the resistance members will conduct a thorough assessment to find the best and most effective way to retaliate against the Zionist regime (Israel).”

Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and senior members of the Revolutionary Guards, including General Mohammad Baqeri, the chief of staff of the Iranian armed forces, will be in attendance. Baqeri said on state TV that “the Zionist regime (Israel) will undoubtedly regret it.”

Following the attack that killed Haniyeh, both Iran and Hamas accused Israel of being behind the incident, which occurred hours after the inauguration of the new Iranian president.

Israeli authorities have not claimed responsibility for the attack, which has raised tensions and concerns of a wider conflict in the Middle East.

The head of the Israeli Air Force, Tomer Bar, assured that the country is prepared to face any threat.

“Hundreds of air defense troops, along with air control personnel, are deployed across the country with the best systems, ready to fulfill their mission,” Bar said at a military graduation ceremony.
