Iran’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khameneimade his first public statement after assuming political and religious command of the country and adopted a tough tone against the United States and its allies in the Middle East. In a message broadcast on Iranian state television, he demanded the closure of American military bases in the region and stated that the country would seek revenge for the deaths that occurred during the recent conflict.
The statement comes amid escalating tensions following military attacks carried out by the United States and Israel against Iranian targets at the end of February, an operation that provoked a series of retaliations and increased the risk of regional conflict.
Demand for US military withdrawal
In his speech, Mojtaba Khamenei stated that the American military presence in the Middle East must be ended. According to him, all United States bases installed in countries in the region must be closed immediately, otherwise they risk becoming targets of Iranian attacks.
During the message, the Iranian leader also reinforced that the country will continue to respond to military actions that it considers external aggression. In his speech he declared: “We will not give up revenge for the blood of the martyrs”signaling that Iran intends to maintain its confrontational strategy against adversaries involved in the conflict.
The statement marked Khamenei’s first public demonstration since assuming leadership after the death of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, during attacks carried out on Iranian territory.
Strait of Hormuz and pressure on the global market
Another central point of the speech was the defense of closing the Strait of Hormuzone of the most important maritime routes for transporting oil in the world. The Iranian leader stated that maintaining control over the strategic passage could be a way of putting pressure on adversaries and influencing the balance of the conflict.
The strait is responsible for about 20% of global oil tradeand any interruption in its operation has the potential to directly impact energy prices and international economic stability.
In recent days, attacks on vessels and energy installations in the region have already raised concerns in markets and increased uncertainty about global oil supplies.
Military escalation and regional impacts
The Iranian leader’s new stance comes against a backdrop of growing conflict in the Middle East. Since the beginning of military operations against Iran, attacks and counterattacks have been recorded in different countries in the region, including Israel and Gulf nations.
Groups allied with Tehran also began to take part in the confrontation. Militias and armed organizations associated with Iran launched attacks against Israeli and American targets, increasing the risk of the conflict expanding to other territories.
International analysts assess that Mojtaba Khamenei’s first statement signals a continuation of the confrontational stance adopted by the Iranian government in recent years, now reinforced by the context of open war in the region.
International community follows the evolution of the crisis
The escalation of military statements and actions has mobilized the international community. European countries and multilateral organizations have defended diplomatic measures to reduce tensions and avoid an expansion of the conflict in the Middle East.
Experts warn that the next few weeks will be decisive in determining whether the confrontation will continue to escalate or whether there will be room for negotiations. Meanwhile, the new Iranian leader’s speech reinforces the climate of uncertainty and keeps the world attentive to the developments of the crisis.
