“The agreement will be published very soon, it gives us everything we need to achieve […] It is a deal that everyone is very happy with.” This is how Trump announced the result of the meeting with Rutte.

In his long-awaited speech at the summit of the World Economic Forum in Davos – Switzerland -, Donald Trump stated that “(…) I don’t have to use force. I don’t want to use force. I won’t use force. The only thing the United States asks for is a place called Greenland”, going so far as to say that it was “a piece of ice”. Although the imperial demands of the American government against the colonial rule of Denmark and the rest of Europe have to do with the “rare earths” it possesses and its strategic position as a passage to Europe and Asia. This is thinking about its strategic competition with China.

That is why, as a measure of pressure, Trump had threatened with tariffs ranging from 10% (starting on February 1) to 25% (if an agreement was not reached) on eight imperialist countries in Europe, such as Denmark itself, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom. Threat he withdrew after meeting with the Dutch Secretary General of NATO, Marck Rutte.

When, in an impromptu press conference, journalists asked him for details about the content of the agreement, Trump simply said: “It’s a little complex, but we’ll explain it later.” Although a NATO spokesperson, Allison Hart, said: “Discussions among NATO allies on the framework the president referred to will focus on ensuring Arctic security through the collective efforts of allies, especially the seven Arctic allies, adding: “Negotiations between Denmark, Greenland and the United States will continue with the goal of ensuring that Russia and China never gain a foothold, either economically or militarily, in Greenland.” Which suggests that at least one party of that agreement could be on the so-called “Arctic dome”, referring to the iron dome owned by the colonialist and genocidal State of Israel.

Another indication of this “agreement” was given this Wednesday by a meeting of senior military members of NATO, where according to The New York Times the proposal to grant the United States sovereignty over small areas of Greenland was considered. Two senior officials there, according to the newspaper, compared the proposal with the United Kingdom military bases in Cyprus, considered British territory.

All this gives the tone that the United States, the main hegemonic imperialism in decline – and for that reason its growing hostility and the European imperialisms that (responding in mirror) increase their military budgets, the only interest they have is to acquire and conserve strategic territories like Greenland, without caring about the native population and much less their right to self-determination, which the revolutionary socialists of the international Permanent Revolution Current IV (CRP-IV) unconditionally defend against plunder of the different imperialisms.
