This Sunday, October 26, national legislative elections will be held that will define the new composition of Congress. In these general elections, citizens are called to renew 127 seats in the Chamber of Deputies – half of its composition – and 24 national senators – a third of the Senate.
Voting is carried out for the first time through the Single Paper Ballot (BUP) throughout the territory for the election of national legislative positions.
Regarding the jurisdictions that split their elections, ten provinces and the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires decided to advance the election of their local legislative and executive positions to dates prior to the national election on October 26. The early provincial electoral processes were distributed as follows: Salta, Jujuy, Chaco and San Luis carried out their local votes on May 11. Subsequently, the City of Buenos Aires renewed its Legislature on May 18. In June, elections were held in Misiones on the 8th, and in Santa Fe and Formosa on June 29. Already in the second semester, Corrientes voted for governor and provincial legislators on August 31, and the Province of Buenos Aires, the district with the largest number of votes, elected its provincial legislators on September 7.
Unlike the aforementioned jurisdictions, several provinces chose to vote for local authorities simultaneously with the national election on October 26. This is the case of Santiago del Estero, where the voters will define the Governor and 40 provincial deputies, in addition to their national representatives. Local authorities will also be elected concurrently: Catamarca, which renews 21 deputies and 8 provincial senators; La Rioja, which elects 18 provincial deputies; and Mendoza, where 24 deputies and 19 provincial senators vote.
