The financial markets, and therefore also the cryptomarket, have recently been led by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. The conflict between Israel and Iran, and especially the new interference of the United States in this conflict, sharpen the markets. In this story, however, it is relevant to evaluate the effects of American actions. How successful was Saturday night’s American attack?
Joke-bombs cause serious damage
According to satellite images, the recent attack on Iran’s nuclear installation in Fordow, one of the most important nuclear installations in the country, seems to have caused serious damage. Nevertheless, experts remain careful in their conclusions about the actual impact on the deep -lying facility. This is apparent from a report from Reuters.
According to David Albright, former UN inspector, the Fordow facility is probably unusable after the attack. “They simply pierced that place with those MOPs. I expect the installation to be destroyed,” he said about the Massive Ordnance Penetrator bombs of 13,600 kilos that seven B-2 bombers thrown on the installation.
Nevertheless, concrete confirmation of the success is not forthcoming. Decker Eveleth, expert in satellite analysis, points out that the centrifuger hall is too deep below ground to determine the damage exactly: “The damage level is simply not visible from space.”
Iran possibly prepared
There are also indications that Iran took precautions just before the attack. Satellite images show “unusual activity” in the form of vehicles that may have evacuated the facility.
An Iranian source stated that the nearly weapon-suitable uranium of 60 percent has been removed and may be hidden at unknown locations. Jeffrey Lewis of the Middlebury Institute emphasizes that the Iranian nuclear program is at most temporarily delayed: “There are almost certainly facilities that we do not know.”
In the meantime, Iran is sure that his nuclear program is peaceful, but ironically threatens to withdraw from the non-proliferation treatment (NPT). With this, the world in the dark about what Iran actually does.
The attack on Fordow was part of the wider American operation called Midnight Hammer, who also met Natanz and Isfahan. According to Albright, serious damage was caused in Isfahan by Tomahawk rockets and in Natanz possible by a mop bomb. There are large question marks about the fate of the thousands of centrifuges in Isfahan: “Where are they now?” He wondered.
The situation remains extremely tense and unclear, and international concerns about a nuclear escalation have not disappeared. At first glance, the US attacks seem a success. But concrete evidence for this are not forthcoming. And with this we cannot expect any rest in the region, nor in the financial markets.
