A senior Hamas representative has expressed openness to a ceasefire agreement with Israel, as reported by The Times of Israel. Husam Badran, a member of the Hamas Political Bureau in Qatar, stated that an understanding is possible, subject to compliance with agreements previously negotiated by Israel.
“We are open to an agreement if [o primeiro-ministro israelense Benjamin] Netanyahu will fulfill what has already been agreed,” said Badran in a statement released by the Shehab news agency. The statement suggests a response to recent proposals from Egypt, which suggested a two-day ceasefire in Gaza to facilitate an exchange of four Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners.
Sources close to Hamas, interviewed by Asharq News, indicated a preference for a comprehensive treaty rather than piecemeal agreements. The Egyptian proposal was also cited by Al Arabiya, which reported Hamas’ willingness to accept it, as long as Israel considers the proposal as part of a broader agreement.
These negotiations come at a time of heightened tensions in the region, with both sides exploring diplomatic solutions to ease the situation in Gaza and ensure the safety of the hostages involved. The search for a comprehensive agreement reflects the complexity of relations and the need for substantial compromises to achieve lasting peace.
