Israel claims to have killed Haitham Khalil, commander of the Shejaiya Battalion, in an air attack the command center near the front line in Gaza
Israel’s defense forces (IDF) and Israel’s security agency said in a joint statement on Thursday that they killed the commander of the Hamas Shejaiya Battalion in Gaza. According to the statement, the commander, Haitham Razek Abd Al-Karim Sheikh Khalil, was killed on Wednesday in an attack on a command and control center located about a kilometer of IDF troops operating in the city of Gaza.
The statement claimed that “several Hamas terrorists operated from inside the command center to plan and execute terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians and FDI soldiers.”
According to Israel’s Defense Forces (IDF), Khalil led infiltration at the Kibutz Nahal Oz in Israel and participated in the southern attack of Israel on October 7, 2023.
In recent years, it has served as a platoon commander in the Battalion and guided Hamas tunnel operations. He took command of the Shejaiya Battalion after the elimination of previous commanders, Jamil Wadia and Fahim Farhat.
