Good news for the ancient mutualists. Finance will finally rectify and pay “in a single payment” the total IRPF returns in the pensions of the ancient mutualists this 2025, which had been delayed at the end of the year. This was announced on Thursday by vice president María Jesús Montero, Minister of the Branch, who has affirmed that the government “listens” to the claims that those affected, the unions and other political formations have sent.
The department of María Jesús Montero thus attends the complaints of pensioners, as well as CCOO and UGT, after the suspensions of the requests for return of this tax to those affected at the end of December, which also created a new procedure that delayed the reintegrates for the next four years.
“After listening to the groups, the unions, the political groups, I can announce that we are going to promote a normative change to maximize these returns,” Montero said.
“At once” return in 2025
“The objective would be that taxpayers with the right to this reimbursement receive the return at once, in a single payment, throughout this year 2025,” said the holder of the Treasury.
“The Tax Agency is able to meet these applications. A party has already been paid in 2024. Now, to those citizens who request it, we will return in that single payment, attending to the claims that were making us groups and political groups with which the Government arrives agreements,” said Montero.
“We are going to make it effective in 2025, since citizens are making us arrive. This is a government that listens, dialogue, and that attends the requests of other political groups,” Montero concluded this Thursday.
Unions celebrate rectification
The change in criteria has come by surprise, since the CCOO and UGT unions met with the Ministry last week and the Treasury maintained their criteria, although it opened to recognize interests to those affected. The majority unions insisted that they would maintain the pressure for the Tax Agency to reversed its decision.
This Thursday, CCOO and UGT have celebrated “the announcement of the rectification” by the government. “It was an arbitrary and discriminatory measure for millions of people, in addition to negatively affecting the principle of legal certainty,” union plants highlight.
“The return procedure has not yet been defined, beyond that it will begin on April 2. We do know that it will be necessary to make a new request,” explained the unions. CCOO and UGT remember that the modification requires a regulatory change, so they have explained that they will press “to accelerate.” “Likewise, we believe that returns are increased by delay interests (4,0625 % per year),” they add in a statement.
These days, the Tax Agency was dealing with a large number of claims for affected pensioners, as they were promoting groups in defense of pensions and CCOO and UGT unions.
In addition, the Ombudsman had also announced actions before the Ministry of María Jesús Montero, given the large number of citizen complaints received by this delay in returns. Although he considered that the decision was not unconstitutional, the institution led by Ángel Gabilondo highlighted the Tax Agency that reached “a group of older people” and that “the delay in the time of their right to return will harm them with respect to those mutualists who have already received the corresponding return.”
