Yesterday afternoon an important meeting of Cedems delegates was held in which they once again learned about and debated the consequences of Milei’s labor reform on the rights of the working class.
Present at the meeting was Enrique Jasid, a lawyer from the Center of Professionals for Human Rights, who illustrated how the reform project is not a modernization, but quite the opposite: a slave regression in terms of historical rights won with years of organization and struggle. Under this framework, he listed the points that most affect the acquired rights in terms of collective labor agreements, vacations, compensation, retirement, and union and collective organization. As well as how it favors the growth of precariousness and labor outsourcing.
Once the talk, questions and debate on these points concluded, the meeting continued to discuss an action plan to follow. In this way, dozens of delegates decided to promote a large campaign about the effects of the reform, both through networks and in street protests to talk to society. It was also resolved to call a committee meeting against the reform from Cedems in order to coordinate forces and join with other sectors in this tough fight.
From the April 9 group they pointed out that “what is being done by the Cedems together with the CD and the delegates is very important, it is an example to follow, first of all, in the teaching unions (and recovered non-teaching ones), to gather forces that challenge the passivity generated by the negotiation strategy of the union centers. The CGT and CTA could be doing the same with much more structure, organizing assemblies in the workplaces so that on the day they want to vote the reform paralyzes the country and we are hundreds of thousands in the streets. We are promoting this perspective throughout the country in the recovered unions in which we are part and also participating in coordination meetings at the national level. Harsh actions are needed to match the attack. The day in question cannot be just another one, as the working people of Bolivia showed against the adjustments of the new government, we must go on strike, mobilize and block roads.
