Official Note of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs celebrates “increasing engagement of the international community”. Brazilian government also urges other countries to do the same

The Brazilian government receives, with satisfaction, the recent statements from the United Kingdom, Malta, Canada and Portugal about the possibility of recognition of Palestine as a state, next September, during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The pronouncements – which add up to the announcement of France last week – report the growing engagement of the international community in favor of concrete actions to materialize the solution of the two states, the only possible way to achieve lasting peace in the Middle East.

The Brazilian government exhorts nations that have not yet recognized Palestine as a state to take this measure as possible as possible and calls on all countries to work for the entry of Palestine as a full member in the United Nations.

In this context, Brazil reaffirms the defense of the solution of two states, with an independent and viable state, living side by side with Israel, in peace and security, within the borders of 1967, which includes the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
