The federal government has announced new measures to ensure the reception and welcome of Brazilians deported from the United States.
The initiative seeks to ensure decent repatriation conditions and immediate support to vulnerable citizens, as shown on Thursday, 6, by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) determined that Brazilian authorities follow the process of return of the deported. To coordinate these actions, a working group (WG) was formed with representatives of Itamaraty, the Ministry of Justice and Public Security and the Federal Police.
On the US side, members of the US Embassy participate in Brasilia and the Customs Immigration and Control Service (ICE).
The next repatriation flight is scheduled for this Friday, 7. The aircraft will depart from Alexandria, in the state of Luisiana, with a technical scale in Puerto Rico, and will go directly to Fortaleza.
The shipment will be accompanied by a diplomat of the Consulate General of Brazil in Houston. Exceptionally, part of the repatriads will be transported to Belo Horizonte at an aircraft available by the Brazilian Air Force (FAB).
At Fortaleza and Belo Horizonte airports, the government will implement a reception operation coordinated by several authorities.
The Federal Police will be responsible for immigration and security procedures, while teams of the Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship will provide direct care to the repatrias.
In Fortaleza, the Advanced Humanized Service Post (PAAHM), under the coordination of the Ceará Secretariat of Human Rights (Sedih), will conduct the migratory procedures and offer multidisciplinary support.
Already in Belo Horizonte, the Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship has installed a host post that will provide services such as free internet access, cell phone porters and communication channels with family members. Repatriates will also receive information on social assistance, health and employment.
The working group will monitor the flight in real time to evaluate and improve the operation model in the next actions.
“The federal government reaffirms its commitment to the promotion and protection of the fundamental rights of Brazilian citizens and acts to ensure decent and safe return. The dignity of the human person is a basic principle of the Federal Constitution and one of the pillars of the Democratic Rule of Law, constituting non -negotiable value, ”said the official statement.
The initiatives are part of a broader government strategy to strengthen assistance to Brazilians abroad. Diplomatic authorities and security agencies evaluate that increased cooperation between the two countries will allow greater effectiveness in managing return operations.
The government also pointed out that the adjustments made on Friday’s flight route aim to reduce the total travel time and minimize the wear of repatriads. This action, according to official sources, is the result of recent negotiations between the Brazilian and American authorities.
In previous operations, human rights organizations and migrant entities had already warned of the difficulties faced by deported upon returning to Brazil, especially in relation to social assistance and reintegration. The government expects that, with the measures implemented, these challenges can be mitigated.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not provided details about the exact number of citizens who will be aboard Friday’s flight, but confirmed that the follow-up by diplomats will be kept on future flights.
