Sale of 500 BTC

The fuss is all about the sale of nearly 500 Bitcoin by the Czech Ministry of Justice. The digital coins came from Tomas Jirikovsky, a convicted criminal who was involved in drug trafficking and possession of weapons, among other things. He ran an illegal online marketplace and was already convicted in 2017.

According to the ministry, the Bitcoin was sold at the end of May via an auction for converted 1 billion Czech crown (around $ 45 million). However, the opposition asks questions about the origin of the money, the legality of the sale and who ultimately the buyers were.

JustitiMinister steps up, new minister promises investigation

The fuss now led to the resignation of Minister of Justice Pavel Blazek on 30 May. He denies that he did something wrong, but said he is leaving to protect the reputation of the government in the run -up to the October elections.

Also international leaders under fire because of crypto

It is not the first time that political leaders are under fire because of crypto. The Argentinian President Javier Milei received criticism after a post on X in which he promoted the Libra token. The currency rose to more than 4.5 billion dollars in market capitalization, but then lost 94 percent of its value after Milei removed the message again. The Argentinian anti -corruption service concluded that Milei was acting in private horses and did not violate laws.

In the United States, President Donald Trump is now being investigated by Democratic Congressmen. At the beginning of May they announced the legislative proposals and an investigation into Trump’s involvement in crypto projects and possible financial interests.
