“Gaza is burning.” With this post in X, I. Katz, the ultra -rightist Minister of Defense Government of Netanyahu, announced on September 15 that the state of Israel had begun a new phase of the genocide against the Palestinian people who have been almost two years: the terrestrial invasion of the city of Gaza with the objective, according to Netanyahu, to reach the until now impossible “final victory” over Hamas.
For the umpteenth time, the Zionist State resorts to the forced displacement of the Palestinian population to concentration camps in the south of the Gaza Strip. An endless column of cars thrown by donkeys, trucks with loads that exceed their bearing several times, whole families on foot with their few belongings. Hundreds of thousands are forced to leave the city, already in ruins, stalked by the famine, the bombings and the incessant fire of the Israeli army that shoots them without more children, doctors, journalists or humanitarian personnel.
The offensive made its way with massive bombings to finish demolishing what was barely standing – including ruined housing buildings and even tents. To this was added the communication blackout that literally left in the complete isolation to about 800,000 Gazati.
The state of Israel exerts brutal pressure by all means to force displacement, a war crime without mitigating to which some cynics intend to sell as “voluntary migration.” Therefore, it is expected that the calamities for the Palestinians increase as the Israeli army progresses towards the heart of the city.
However, a week after the invasion began, between 200,000 and 400,000 Palestinians, according to estimates of humanitarian agencies, they still remain in the city, either because many refuse to leave their homes (even if they are reduced to ruins) in a heroic gesture of resistance, or simply because they do not have the means, or money to pay transport, or the forces to move, nor the expectation of being able to find refuge. After decades of “incremental genocide” (I. Pappé) and two years of open -pit genocide perpetrated by the state of Israel, they know that where they go they will find hunger, death and destruction.
Netanyahu’s goal is to empty as much as possible Gaza to facilitate the invasion, and incidentally, to calm the anxiety of its extreme right partners who do not conform with the objective of “defeating Hamas” and “recovering the hostages”, but also demand advances towards the “final solution”, that is, the final expulsion of the 2 million Palestinians of Gaza, and the population of the West by Israel throughout the historical territory of Palestine.
It is no secret that Netanyahu’s plan, its partners of the religious extreme right, the settlers and this height of the set -sionist establishment is ethnic cleaning. And that this plan received green light from the United States when Donald Trump proposed to transform Gaza into a luxury resort into the Mediterranean.
The most eloquent spokesperson of the Zionist colonial project is Netanyahu’s Minister of Finance, the fascist B. Smotrich, who before an entrepreneurial audience said that Gaza is a “real estate bonanza” and that to take advantage of it, only the demolition task and the expulsion of the Palestinians remain, and clarified that he was already negotiating with Trump the distribution of the territory.
Just a week before launching Gaza’s invasion, Israel tried to kill high controls of Hamas who were in Doha negotiating an alleged cessation of fire. Qatar adds to the list of “bombing” countries by Israel, composed of Lebanon, Iran, Syria and Yemen. Although the operation apparently was not successful and the direction of Hamas survived, the attack against Qatar is a jump, since it is not a common enemy of the Zionist State and American imperialism, as they will go, but of a fundamental ally of the United States in the Middle East, which houses the largest American military base in the region.
Trump decided to lower the price to the crisis, and the reactionary Arab and Muslim regimes, which allow the genocide of the Palestinian people and are in the process of “normalizing” their relations with the Zionist State, barely issued a harmless statement, without any measure to curb the genocide in Gaza and the attacks in the West Bank. None even threatened to withdraw from Abraham’s agreements. Israel’s unpunished attack on an ally protected by the United States is an ominous message for the Gulf, Egypt and Jordan monarchies, already in a warning for mass expulsion plans of the Palestinian population to its borders.
The beginning of the land offensive in Gaza, baptized as phase two of the “Gideon cars” operation coincided with the visit to Israel of the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, who competed in fascist statements with Netyahu himself. The Trump representative, flanked by his friend Bibi, referred to the Palestinians as “animals” to which he had to exterminate – both terms used by the former Minister of Defense Y. Gallant that among other things earned him an arrest warrant of the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity.
Simultaneously, a commission of criminal experts sent by the United Nations Human Rights Council published a report in which it accuses Israel of committing a genocide in Gaza. Although with delay, since dozens of human rights organizations have already reached this conclusion (including the Lapidary Our genocide of the Israeli organization B’Telem), the report anyway is another blow to the legitimacy of the state of Israel and its accomplices in the genocide, in particular the United States and the European powers.
In an opinion article appeared in New York TimesNavi Pillay, one of the jurists who integrated this panel and who in the 1990s investigated the genocide in Rwanda, explains that the crime of genocide has two dimensions: the specific act and intentions (mens bad) and that the latter is more difficult to prove because genocides tend to hide and cover up their crimes. In the case of Gaza, the members of the Israeli government publicly ventilated their extermination plans by military means or using other mechanisms such as the methodical planning of famine. And that this constitutes undoubtedly evidence of genocidal intention. Welcome to the XXI Century Holocaust.
The state of Israel suffered an accelerated international delegitimation process and this height is almost reduced to the condition of Paria, although it continues to have the unconditional support of the United States – which is its main asset – and a handful of dragged as the government of Milei, whose only foreign policy is to obey Washington and Israel. The countries of the so -called “Global South” have been voting for sentences and complaints in international forums. The International Criminal Court began the complaint for genocide against Israel filed by South Africa. Netanyahu and his former Minister of Defense, Y. Gallant, have an international arrest warrant for war crimes. The last sample of this diplomatic isolation is the absolutely majority vote in the United Nations Assembly in favor of the establishment of the Palestinian State, although this is not only a merely symbolic gesture, but if concretized it would be a legitimation of the Apartheid regime against the Palestinian people.
Netanyahu referred to this diplomatic isolation in an unhappy speech that he later had to go back. He said before a conference conference that the European powers had become enemies due to the pressure exerted by Muslim immigrants (a version of their kind of the theory of the great replacement of the extreme right) and compared Israel with Sparta (sic) suggesting that what remained ahead was a path of autarchy – economic even – and militarism to remain regional “hegemon”. In addition to omitting that the story of Sparta ended badly, he lacked to mention that Israel has an absolute dependence on the United States, which was evidenced in the “12 -day war” against Iran. This structural dependence strategically weakens its regional position despite its military tactical successes, such as the discouragement of Hezbollah and Hamas.
To tell the truth, in one sense the state of Israel is at its time of greatest international isolation, but in another it is the pole of attraction for imperialism and the forces of reaction, which together continue to allow genocide.
Israel’s attempt by historical allies to separate from the most aberrant crimes in Netyahu and his facos government with symbolic measures, is directly proportional to his complicity not interrupted with genocide. Only after two years of genocide and under pressure from the mobilization, the British Labor Government decided to suspend the sale of some weapons to Israel, although it provides crucial armament. And together with France they declared themselves in favor of the Palestinian State. Almost no country – including those of the “Global South” – has broken diplomatic or commercial relations with the Zionist State, although the EU is studying to cut some commercial benefits, a minimum measure that will not even be implemented.
Committing a genocide in the eyes of the world is not free. Neither for Israel nor for its accomplices – United States, Great Britain, Germany, France, the European Union, Australia -, where the support of governments to the State of Israel contrasts with the majority repudiation of the population to the crimes of the Zionist State, which has operated a very significant change in the public opinion of the Western countries. In the United States, the questioning reaches the Maga sector of the Trumpist base, which sees a growing contradiction between the unconditional alliance with Israel and the slogan “America First”. Although this position is minority in the Institutional Republican Party, some of its figures such as Steve Bannon have weight in the most militant sectors of the Republican right.
The most significant consequence is undoubtedly the emergence of a strong international movement of solidarity with the Palestinian people, and the emergence of an anthisionist youth, which advances in the understanding that genocide and ethnic cleaning are the logical conclusion of the Zionist project of colonialism of settlers (that is, replacement of the local population). And that the only way to stop it is international mobilization and support for Palestinian resistance. This movement is severely repressed and persecuted by the imperialist governments and the allies of Israel, but has not been defeated, as the mass mobilizations in Great Britain, Australia or the Netherlands, the actions in the cycling return of the Spanish State, the return of the blockages of the port workers such as in Italy, or the complaints of the parliamentarians of the left front in Argentina against the Prosecutor of the Left. Milei, to name just some examples. In these days, the Sumud Global Flotilla (of which our international current and referents of the FITU participate), which brings together representatives from 45 countries, will try to reach Gaza despite the military threat of Israel.
From the Nazi holocaust there have been many genocides, but the one who is prepeating the state of Israel in Gaza has the peculiarity that it is a crime in which the set of imperialist powers and their allies are directly involved. That is why the fight against genocide necessarily has an anti -imperialist component, and is objectively linked to the ongoing struggles, which, as in France or Argentina, face the attacks of the adjusting capitalist governments, accomplices of Israeli colonialism.
