I agree that it is a very good exchange that is being developed based on what Ángel Arias and Juan Chingo write and what Emilio Albamonte raises about current events… in light of the course of the Latin American bourgeoisies during the 20th century (and the so-called experiences of the first “populism” onwards), the theory of permanent revolution and the strategic and political tasks of the Trotskyists. And that other comrades also develop.
I just wanted to add two things. First, that this dynamic of the political representatives of the Latin American bourgeoisies is effectively seen, both in a long-term historical dimension (20th century and 21st century), and in the degradation and turn to moderate and right-wing positions of progressivisms (what some call their “cycles”). And particularly from the intensification of imperialist pressure, economic and political pressure and now with military attacks. This can be seen clearly in the substance of the positions of Lula Da Silva and Claudia Sheinbaum in the last year, the two most important progressivisms that remain in the region.
The second most political, strategic and programmatic aspect to link to the anti-imperialist approach in Latin America is the importance of anti-imperialist and internationalist action that can be developed within the United States. And the role that this can have in confronting this imperialist attack or others, such as those proposed by Guillo, on Cuba. As well as its importance in our political and strategic approach.
On Saturday, the Movement of Socialist Workers (MTS) was the only organization at the rally in Mexico that specifically raised the need for unity of mobilization in Latin America with the actions of anti-imperialist struggle and resistance in the US and other imperialist countries. Something that populists, maduristas, etc., do not and will not seriously raise, a very important debate that is being updated today.
The necessary unity of the anti-imperialist and anti-capitalist (socialist) struggle in the countries of Latin America, with the action of the proletariat and youth of the United States against their own governments, is a heritage of our current, which must be expressed in concrete political terms in the current situation and also put on the offensive. Heritage not only of what we are today, but of our tradition, as it is enough to remember the actions of the American Trotskyists in the face of expropriations or the calls of León Trotsky to the British proletariat in 1938.
