Ethereum (ETH) has regained its leading position as the largest blockchain ahead of Tether (USDT), overtaking Tron. According to data from DefiLlama, the total USDT supply on Ethereum now stands at $60.3 billion, up 9.3% in the past week.
Meanwhile, USDT supply on Tron fell 1.5% to $58.1 billion. This marks the return of Ethereum’s dominance for the first time since August 2022.
Total USDT supply reaches record of nearly $133 billion
The total supply of Tether (USDT) has reached a new high of $132.9 billion. This is a promising indicator for the broader crypto market. Stablecoins like USDT play a crucial role in providing trading liquidity and supporting capital flows within the ecosystem.
Ethereum remains a favorite among financial institutions for its tokenization of US dollar-based assets. At the same time, Tron maintains its popularity in high-inflation regions, thanks to low transaction fees and fast processing. This makes Tron attractive to users who want to save more efficiently in stablecoins such as USDT.
USDT is also issued on the blockchains of BNB Chain, Arbitrum and Avalanche. However, the amount of USDT on these blockchains is currently significantly lower than the amount on the Ethereum and Tron blockchain.
On November 21, Ethereum took a lead over Tron, and this gap widened further on November 23, when Tether issued $2 billion of USDT on Ethereum, versus $1 billion on Tron.
