The Ethereum community has taken an important step in its global positioning. Influential players within the ecosystem have founded the Ethereum Protocol Advocacy Alliance (EPAA) – an organization that aims to better inform policymakers about Ethereum and advocate for fair, balanced regulations around blockchain technology.
EPAA wants to counter the influence of centralized crypto
The launch of the EPAA is intended to counter the growing influence of large, centralized crypto companies in the legislative process. According to the alliance, this dominance means that the principles of decentralization and transparency, which are at the heart of blockchain, are often misunderstood or overlooked.
The alliance consists of a range of leading names from the decentralized finance world, including Aave Labs, Aragon, Curve, Lido Labs Foundation, Spark Foundation, The Graph Foundation and the Uniswap Foundation.
Together, these organizations manage more than $100 billion in digital assets, entirely through open and non-custodial protocols – without the intervention of central parties.
“We want to use our technical knowledge to show that onchain solutions actually contribute to safe and responsible regulations,” the alliance said.
Support from the Ethereum Foundation
Of Etherum Foundation supports the establishment of the EPAA. Co-Executive Director Tomasz K. Stańczak emphasized that the foundation fully supports this “community-led advocacy.”
The foundation’s support makes it clear that Ethereum is not only committed to technological innovation, but also to policy representation to protect the core values of decentralization.
An alternative to large crypto lobbies
The establishment of the EPAA comes at a time when the crypto industry is becoming increasingly active in politics worldwide.
In the United States, for example, the Fairshake Political Action Committee (PAC) was founded during the previous election cycle – backed by investment giant a16z, cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase and Ripple.
Fairshake raised $260 million in lobbying efforts, of which nearly $196 million was actually spent, according to figures from OpenSecrets.
Although the EPAA does not focus on political campaigns, the organization aims to influence policy through education, technical expertise and collaboration.
Four pillars of the EPAA
The Ethereum Protocol Advocacy Alliance has established four concrete strategies to effectively engage with policymakers:
- Sharing technical expertise about Ethereum and blockchain technology.
- Developing accessible information sources for policy makers and the general public.
- Coordinating strategic communications to reinforce the message of decentralization.
- Search for shared technical interests to promote collaboration.
Ethereum continues to build a mature ecosystem
The EPAA is part of a broader movement within Ethereum to improve communication and collaboration in the ecosystem.
For example, the Ethereum Foundation recently renewed its subsidy program, which now supports more selective projects.
In addition, the foundation launched the institutions.ethereum.org platform at the end of October, intended to help more institutions with smooth integration with Ethereum.
The creation of the EPAA gives the Ethereum ecosystem a stronger and more coordinated voice in the global policy debate — a crucial step toward recognizing the value of decentralized technology in the financial and social landscape.
